Virginia A 1, Hermantown A 0, due to injury and sickness Hermantown had only 8 skaters and a goalie compared to Virginia's 23 skaters and 2 goalies

23 skaters and two goalies ?? should of made two teams/moved a couple up to the JV/something.

I think this new rule is going to be a disaster. With the refs calling a 5 min penalty every game there will be kids missing all sorts of games and head coaches missing all sorts of games as well.

Come playoffs when all teams and players are at their highest totals and the intensity level is at the highest are we going to be having a championship game with no head coaches? Missing kids? because the refs are calling 5 min penalties every single game.

I was at the D3 meeting last night and heard them talk about the rule, the speaker said "we don't have enough info form last year" (so this is why they are doing it again this year) great so then why the heck are you now putting in another rule with all sorts of suspensions and you don't have enough information from last year.

All I have to say is way to go MN hockey and District Directors, you really gave this some thought. Maybe you should go have another Beer before you come up with these policies.
Sure is easy to complain without offering any solutions..... And your fantastic idea IS????
I've watched my fair share of games and coached for 25 years...I would argue that many of those penalties that are called, are in fact justified. Whether 5 minute or not.... IMHO

My biggest issue was the suspensions they wanted to enforce on kids for their 3rd 5 min major or maybe it was second. Either way the district realized it as well because they pulled that rule.

As for a solution it should be the refs discretion. I think there is a difference between a major boarding and a 2 min one. Same with checking from behind. If you want stiffer then do a double minor. That way if if the other team scores the penalty will either go down to 2 min left or be done.

I never said anything about refs calling things that were not penalties but I think they call the major to often.
