SEC Teams in Holidays Tournaments

Post by SimplyPut »

Earlier there is always alot of talk on the strength of the Suburban East Conf. Thought I would start a thread on their Holiday Tournament Results.

Also Why did a couple SEC teams play each other Again in Tournament play ?

Mounds View 5 Forest lake 2
FL out shot MV 36 - 24,

Hastings 4 Woodbury 1
Hastings stayed consistant with past results

Stillwater 2 Andover 3
Very Close fast moving game.

Roseville 2 Lakeville S 3
Roseville had their chances just could not score

Cretin 3 Rogers 0
All Cretin in this shutout win.

So Far SEC 3 Wins and 4 losses (2 losses against SEC opponents)

I think the Woodbury vs Hastings counted as a home game for Hastings and as a SEC game.

Look at the teams the SEC is playing in those tourney results. The two toughest games that the teams had, they lost (Stillwater to Andover and Roseville to Lakeville South). You never know what you are going to get with Stillwater night in and night out. Yes, they beat a very very good Minnetonka team, but until they prove that they can show up and play with the big boys night in and night out, it's hard to take them seriously. They had a chance to prove themselves against Wayzata and Andover but lost both of them. They will likely finish top 3 in SEC along with Hastings and MV. Who has the SEC beaten this year aside from Stillwater beating Tonka? Forest Lake beat Rapids in the opening game of the year but has looked horrible since then. White Bear beat Cloquet. That's it. WBL is having a down year. MV plays Benilde and Centennial later this year. They might be able to upset one of those teams but do they really have what it takes to make a run in Section 4? Doubtful. The SEC is down this year. 5-6 years ago when Roseville, Cretin and WBL all had great teams, the SEC was arguably the best conference in the state. Since then, however, is a different a story.

Park plays Eastview tomorrow, not exactly a top tier matchup but a matchup of similar teams from the SEC and the SSC.

You really think the top 3 in the standings at the end of the yearwill be Hastings, Mounds View and Stillwater?

Yes I do. I think MV wins the SEC this year. Stillwater will finish second and Hastings has been very strong this year in the SEC. What do you think? Roseville is playing a lot better as of late and Aus is a very good coach so I wouldn't be surprised if they make a push and finish top 3, but that's asking a lot for such a young team. As a Roseville alumni I would really like to see them finish top 3. Forest Lake is very up and down this year. Maybe Cretin can finish top 3? It's really hard to predict, but I feel pretty confident with MV and Stillwater finishing top 2 this year. Number 3 is anyone's guess, and that's why I predicted Hastings.

I think Mounds View will be in the Top 3 with their solid play. I also like Roseville to finish up there as well, even if they are young, believe they have enough talent to win some games. I just dont like Stillwater, way to on and off for me. They can come out and beat Minnetonka but then tie with Park? Park is going to be the last place team in the SEC.

As a dark horse, I do like East Ridge, they play under control but dont have any standout players. And as always, even though they may be down, White Bear Lake has to figure in somewhere.

As for Hastings, there goalie play is not that strong and I dont see them beating the other top teams in the SEC on a consistent basis. Just watched them last night vs Hermantown, granted Hermantown is a very fast and talented team.

I will go with Roseville and Mounds View in the top 3, as for the 3rd like you said anyone of the next in line can snag it.

Yeah, I totally agree with East Ridge. They are tough to play. Stillwater is very incosistent. I thought this would be the year that they pulled it all together to make a run in 4AA but I don't see that happening. I would be really ecstatic if Roseville finished top 2. They are playing really well as of late. As I said before, Aus is just a great coach. Park is really bad, lol. It's the toughest conference to predict. I like your predictions though. Are you an SEC grad?

Forest Lake beat Rogers 5-1. Forest Lake played good all tourney. If they didnt play moundsview first round they would be in the championship.

They should be able to beat conference opponents right? It's hard to take Forest Lake seriously if they can't beat a rival. In two games against MV this year, FL has given up 16 goals... They beat Blake and Rogers the other two games in the bronze division. Good for them. They are still Forest Lake.

I wouldn't count out White Bear yet, they have alot of conf. games to play, and could go on a win streak. Of course they could go down in flames also.

SEC Standings

Mounds View 16
Cretin-Derham Hall 14
Roseville 12
Hastings 10
Stillwater 9
East Ridge 8
White Bear Lake 7
Forest Lake 6
Park (Cottage Grove) 3
Woodbury 3

Can Mounds View hang on for the conference title, or will CDH or Roseville stay hot and take it away?
