We are now in the final countdown of the regular season and this will be the second-to-last week of our "Big Games" contests. So for all of you "lurkers" out there who so far haven't tried this, now's the time!

This week we again have a MONDAY NIGHT GAME so the deadline for posting your predictions is Monday, January 21st at 7:30PM! If you don't have time to do all of the games before Monday at 7:30PM you can post just this first game by then and then do the rest by Tuesday at 7:00PM.

As reported on Minnesota-Scores.net...still nothing on the Hub so I can't provide a game summary.

Our group of 14 included 9 who thought C-E-C would win, while the other 5 favored P/H (you know who you are!

). Of the nine who got the winning team right, one also got the score right: fishfreak11 jumps out to the early lead with two points!

Five games on tap for tomorrow, two of which are fairly evenly split. In the Eden Prairie/Hopkins matchup, it's EP 8, Hopkins 5 and one tie. It seems that every Lake Conference game lately has been very evenly contested, which is to be expected when ALL 5 of the Lake Conference teams are ranked in the Top 12 in Class 2A. At this point in the season, there can be NO DOUBT as to which conference is the strongest, top to bottom.

Then for Buffalo/North Wright County, Buffalo is favored in this thread by just an 8 to 6 margin. In their first game NWC came out on top 4-0, but since then Buffalo has posted big wins against the likes of Wayzata, Benilde-St. Margaret's, Eden Prairie and Warroad.

It'll be interesting to see how these two games play out. And if last week's string of upsets should continue, who knows what might happen in the other three games.

And last week’s string of upsets continues! In the first reported score of the evening it was:

Wayzata 3, Minnetonka 2 (OT)
Kaitlyn Klein scored her third goal of the game at 2:06 of overtime to give Wayzata a big Lake Conference victory over No. 1AA ranked Minnetonka. Mara Dougherty assisted on two of the Wayzata’s goals, including Klein’s overtime winner. McKenna Lorenz made 31 saves in goal for the Trojans.

In our contest we had one astute prognosticator – luckyEPDad – who not only predicted a Trojan victory but also the 3-2 score. In the process luckyEPDad picks up two points on everyone else – great job!

Eden Prairie 4, Hopkins 1
Angie Heppelmann’s two goals, including her power play game winner a minute into the 2nd period, propelled Eden Prairie over Hopkins at the Minnetonka Ice Arena. Heppelmann also assisted on a 3rd period score by Allison Koloski to finish with a three point night. Other major scoring contributors for the Eagles were Kate Rydland who had a goal and an assist, Charly Dahlquist with two assists and the aforementioned Koloski who had a goal and an assist. McKenzie Johnson stopped 23 of 24 Hopkins shots while EP fired 31 at Hopkins netminder Erin O'Neil.

Our panel was very evenly split on this game, with the majority thinking it would be decided by a single goal, one way or the other. Half of our participants (8 of 16) did pick EP to win and receive a point each.

Buffalo 4, North Wright County 3
Buffalo came back from a two goal deficit to top North Wright County 4-3 in an important Mississippi 8 conference showdown. Instrumental in the Bisons’ comeback was Katie Rooney, who scored two goals including the 3rd period game winner while her team was shorthanded. Buffalo’s Madi Jewell and Allison Roethke each scored a goal and had an assist. Maddi Sjelin, Greta Stanton and Dani Sibley each scored for North Wright County, and they also each had an assist. Shots on goal favored the River Hawks slightly by a 32-27 margin.

10 of 16 prognosticators pick up a point for their prediction of a Buffalo win. There were no correct scores.

The Hub shows that the Thief River Falls/Crookston game was postponed, so that game will not figure into this week’s contest. So what has become our last Tuesday night game to be reported it was:

Mounds View 4, Cretin-Derham Hall 3 (OT)
Kathryn Larson scored the game winner at 6:55 of overtime for the Mustangs. Her winning goal gave her the hat trick on the night, having also scored goals in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Bella Sutton had Mounds View’s other goal and also had two assists. Mounds View ended with a 34-25 advantage in shots on goal, including a 9-4 margin in the overtime.

All but one had the 3rd ranked Mustangs winning this game, but nobody got the score right.
