St Thomas (14-1-1) @ Hill-Murray (14-2-1) 1-24-13 7:30pm
The third time these two teams meet this season will be on Thursday.
A Pioneer win and the two will likely share the conference title, a Cadet win and the Cadets will likely win the conference title.
In their two meetings this season St Thomas has scored 5 goals and Hill-Murray 4. Zevnik and Dugas are the top two goalies in state in GAA and both are top 5 in save %.
St Thomas hasn't lost in their last 13 games and on paper are the favorite but few would bet on Hill-Murray to not win at least one of three games against their conference rival.
Looking forward to a great game on Thursday at Aldrich!

Oh but we DID beat them already this year
I expect a great game, and I agree with you that its hard to envision HM not outright winning at least 1 of 3 against them. I'll be at the game and expect another close battle!

Those days are gone, sad to say. There are a lot of arenas half the size of Aldrich that may get packed once or twice a year. Aldrich is rarely full. Plenty of good seats were still available at Braemar for the Edina-Hill game. That was 1 vs. 3 on a Saturday night. And the Vikes-Packers playoff game didn't keep that many people away. in 2010 I was there for Tonka-Edina and it was the same story. Two top AA programs late in the season, i was surprised. I don't know if people prefer to watch a herky-jerky internet feed or what.old goalie85 wrote:That place will be packed.
This one will be 3-2 Pioneers, in regulation. The Cadets run the table after that to earn a share of the conference championship, giving them a grand total of five. That shows you what happens when you spend 40 years in a conference with the Pioneers, who have about 35 conference titles. They're used for kindling for the Homecoming bonfire. I'm sure the Cadets put them in a place of high honor, since they're as rare as hens teeth to them.

I agree with your assessment of size of Aldrich, although the first meeting between these two was packed. And that wasn't coming when they had already had two meetings with 1 goal difference.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote:Those days are gone, sad to say. I have noticed that, for whatever reason, Tuesday/Thursday games tend to be better attended than Saturday games. Plenty of things it could be, I won't speculate.
Streaming probably contributes as well.
I doubt it'll be full, but "packed" is likely a good description of how it'll be, in my opinion...

I certainly don't....Looks like coin toss between this game and the Minnetonka v. Wayzata tilt.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote:Those days are gone, sad to say. They have any good munchies in that barn?
Buy ya a soda after the game!
I would expect another very entertaining game between these two teams, with goals likely at a premium. I believe Zevnik has only given up three goals once, vs. Hill in the Schwan's Cup while Dugas has only given up three goals three times, once against STA in the Schwan's Cup. Hill seems to have picked up their scoring, but it's hard to say since their competition hasn't been great since the Wayzata game. I look for a 3-2 game and I'll say it's hill's turn to get the win.
As far as the crowd, it will be a good one, but Aldirch won't be full for several reasons ( cold weather, other events, and the fact that the game is on FSN) If you're planning on going, though, it would be worth it to get there early and catch some of the JV game. In their first meeting, Hill scored in the last six seconds to get a tie and in the Schwan's Cup, STA scored in the last minuite to win.
To answer Ogie's questons, Aldrich food in average at best, although the hot dogs are much improved this year.

I have never seen the kid play but have heard of his prowess. Any chance of him getting pulled up to varsity at some point this season? I assume LaValle was the last 8th grader that played varsity at Hill.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote:Joey Anderson is reason enough to catch a Hill JV game. He may outscore the varsity Thursday.
The Anderson kid played on varsity Saturday and I assume he will play this Thursday as well...and no he did not get a goal or point saturday but did not look out of place either. I did here his parents held him back a year, which makes sense since he has a '98 birthyear so he would really be a freshman this year. Should be a great game...koolio wrote:I have never seen the kid play but have heard of his prowess. Any chance of him getting pulled up to varsity at some point this season? I disagree. I was at Braemar for that game in 2010, and though there were still a few seats left, the place was nearly full. Maybe you were thinking of an exodus after the first period, when Tonka was up 5-0... and went on to lose in OT, goal by Louie Nanne! That was a great game and the house was rocking.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote:Those days are gone, sad to say. Personally, I'd rather have it be "packed" but not "sold out." It's really a drag getting to a highly anticipated game out in the sticks and be told there are no more tickets left. Happened for last year's Duluth East - Maple Grove game, and I still won't set foot in Maple Grove after spending the night in a stooopid Buffalo Wild Wings joint.
Sections at Aldrich last year was also a near-sell out, and a couple of great games. The Totino-STA game was especially good.
Is this game on Fox Sports North? or are they showing a different game? and is it streamlined as well? I heard it should be close to capacity crowd if not a sell-out but either way it should be a barn burner of a game...Shinbone_News wrote:I disagree. Not on FSN I see they changed their site to Tonka/Wayzata. Streaming (or in your case streamlining) on MNHOCKEYCENTERGems wrote:Is this game on Fox Sports North? or are they showing a different game? and is it streamlined as well?
