7AA Seeds
No link yet but I believe the mtg is on Monday...
Here is where I think the MSHSL needs to make a change - while I would support the big scale change like talked about in the section realignment thread - my issue at this moment is with the name. The MSHSL league refers to these as COMPETITIVE SECTION ASSIGNMENTS, their words not mine. I imagine if you ask BSM or Tonka players/families they would take issue with looking at section 6AA and then this list and calling it competitive. I think either change the name to "Geographical Section Assignments" then we can all agree the State tournament is about fair representation rather than finding the best teams, or truly commit to making each section Competitive as they currently state.
I mean no disrespect to teams in this section, just was going through sections looking for seedings, and felt compelled to get on my soap box for a moment.

Yeah that's what I said, looks like the comprehension is lacking in the north as well.BarTender3035 wrote:Keep spreading out the cities teams north, good idea. Lets change the tournament name to The Cities Tournament too while we are at it. Deal with it.
Just saying you can't call them competitive and not have them competitive, and if 8 teams from the north deserve to be there, then I would like them all to have a fair chance to be there not just one of them.

If your going to get on your high horse about "cities teams" why have FL and ER in this section. Seems like this section rep is still from the cities most years. This year the 1 and 3 seed are so likley same result this year. If you're sending a cities team to state anyway it might as well be one of the top ones.

If Forest Lake wins 7AA, one of the Lakeville teams wins 1AA, and North Wright County wins 8AA (all of which could rather easily happen), then you have eight teams from the metro in the tournament.
If that's going to be the case, shouldn't they be the BEST 8 teams?
If you must have a team from up north in the tournament just because it's the way things have always worked, then combine 7AA and 8AA and cut the section off at the metro. But lots of things change over time, and the time has come for Minnesota Hockey to change this. Play down to the best 8 teams and put them in state no matter where they come from.

To be honest, if they are going to keep the 2 class system (A & AA) then I think they should go back to having a tier 1 and tier 2 type of tournament. No matter what your enrollment, top 8 teams go tier 1 next go tier 2.D6 Girls Fan wrote:If Forest Lake wins 7AA, one of the Lakeville teams wins 1AA, and North Wright County wins 8AA (all of which could rather easily happen), then you have eight teams from the metro in the tournament.

what a bunch of whiners. let the girls play hockey and go watch the girls play, be it sectionals or state. don't you guys have anything better to do than bash the system? nothing is ever perfect.
this site should be called the Twin Cities crying board!
i sure hope you don't have daughters playing.

Well of course we have daughters playing, and we shouldn't have to sweat the top 2 teams playing each other a week before the tournament, or #3 and #4 playing in section 2.
I am biased, yes, but I just don't see a logical argument against having the best 8 teams play for the championship. Everyone is biased. Some people are just biased towards some antiquated geographic system which allows teams ranked outside the top 20 to make the tournament.
I'm all for Cinderella, but at least make her go to the ball before she gets the slipper.

Equitable? Cake not divided equally? Luck of our geography? You are saying the metro is underrepresented? Like I said before, if your private school or 2500 student public school or coop wants to take advantage of our geography situation; opt into one of our outstate sections. Just show up in Moorhead, Roseau, or Cloquet on a weeknight for games. I should point out that for the most part outstate teams are community based and don't have all the metro disadvantages you suffer from.sinbin wrote:You mean, do something that makes sense and is equitable, rather than allowing teams to advance to state simply based on being average and on the luck of their geography? What a novel concept.
Reading between the lines...what do you mean for the most part?D16Dad wrote:Equitable? Cake not divided equally? Luck of our geography? You are saying the metro is underrepresented? We are forgetting the mission of the MSHSL. It is about participation, not about being competitive. Now, I've long supported seeding sections giving one each to the top eight teams and suggested how this could be done. Bottom line is that the MSHSL cares first about participation and second about competitive section creation. This is why I'd guess they first started with tiers on the boys side when they went to multiple classes.
There are or have been coops (necessary) and privates in the outstate sections... For the most part community based. No reading between the lines necessary.Pens4 wrote:Reading between the lines...what do you mean for the most part?D16Dad wrote:Equitable? Cake not divided equally? Luck of our geography? First it was 2750 kids that was too big, now its 2500 kids thats too big. Only 7 schools have over 2500 kids...of which 4 of them have never made it to state in girls hockey. So what exactly is your parameters for fair? Some schools are grades 9-12 so that puts them over 2500 kids or they too would be under 2500 kids. So if I understand your parameters you would like: no big schools, no private schools and no co-ops....sounds good! Translation...eliminate 80% of the good teams so my team has a chance.D16Dad wrote:Equitable? Cake not divided equally? Luck of our geography? You are saying the metro is underrepresented? How about we have a state tournament from Princeton MN north about 2/3s the state. I will do the Brackets for AA
Roseau vs Duluth
GRG vs Moorhead
Hibbing vs St Cloud
Bemidji vs Alexandria
Now lets do one fair for the cities
BSM vs Edina
Lakeville N vs EP
Tonka vs Mounds View
Hill Murray vs Hopkins
Lets vote.....which one would you attend?
I will try again -36Guy wrote:First it was 2750 kids that was too big, now its 2500 kids thats too big. Lets vote.....which one would you attend? Now we can't play at the Excel either? Are they the same weekend? That is a tuff call but I would have to attend the one my daughters team is playing in. Looks like you are posing the classic question of representative republic vs pure democracy. As long as you have your 51% of the vote...
I welcome anyone that thinks it is an advantage to live in the sticks to join us. Opt into an outstate section and then play all of the section opponents at least once in the regular season. Seems like a fair trade. The fairness to me has nothing to do with getting there. But if you want to get in through outstate section _AA; play those teams during the regular season. I do not believe it to be fair to become a member of section _AA just for the playoffs.I wrote:["...if your private school or (lets say any size) public school or coop wants to take advantage of our geography situation; opt into one of our outstate sections. Most of the above was responding to all of the advantages or luck of our geography. Travelling 135 miles one way for a game on a school night is quite common

Well I can tell you that many Buffalo fans would rather be a part of 8AA (or 7AA) instead of 6AA. I don't think "opting" for a different section is how it works.....the MSHSL does all the assigning.D16Dad wrote: I will try again -I welcome anyone that thinks it is an advantage to live in the sticks to join us. Alex & Hibbing play A -- take another shot at it

Sorry...poor research. Tell you what you tell me...what are the two best teams from the north I left out...or is there any????
But really, this is not a north vs south thing. People either take the geographical side and go on an analytical diatribe or complain about school size, private schools and co-ops. I would just like to see the best 8 teams make it or close to it. Weather they all live within 20 miles of each other or the represent Albert Lea to International Falls. It is not just teams. If I am going to take Thursday and Friday off work and spend the money I would like to see talented players also, which good teams have the majority of(no, I do not need to be reminded there are good players on bad teams)

Yep, made the trip to Monticello, Buffalo, Richmond, Princeton, Painsville, etc. once or twice...Silent But Deadly wrote:Well I can tell you that many Buffalo fans would rather be a part of 8AA (or 7AA) instead of 6AA.
