Let me translate some of this debate......Joey Anderson obviously has the ability to make others around him better players....end of story.
Brown obviously struggled without Guentzel and Lavalle, now that he has someone to make him better he has found some spark. The games that I have seen Anderson is all over the rink making plays and setting guys up. Did not notice him standing in front chipping in goals while his linemates worked hard. Rather quite the opposite as he has worked to make them better.
If they can keep that HM will prove to be dangerous.......

LOL
I agree with Bogeyman here as well as point about the Moorhead game as Joey deflected one in.. He does both very well, I said that in my post i.e. he can also be around the net without the bigger guys knocking him around as well...D3Referee wrote::lol: Joey is a nice player, but yes, they waited to bring him up for a reason. Do you really expect them to play their first line more and beat those teams by 15 -20?
As for "Extra, Extra" You think I'm an idiot. They didn't change the balance of play between first and second lines for the weaker part of their later schedule. And of course I weighed SOS.. Believe me, Lavalle going for all time Hill points record and Slattery battling him for overall year point total, they didn't let down in later games. Of course they played 4th line more but that hits 1st & 2nd line fairly evenly.. So it's a fluid, dynamic stat but if you don't think it had to do with personnel change on 2nd line your smoking something..
And if you were at those 16 games what you saw first hand correlated with the stats I gave.. You think they waited until the cream puff part of schedule to move Joey up, you're wrong, as someone else said "Mills was not doing anything on the line and, nobody from 3rd was showing anything either so Lechner went with the youngster." (And the first game up was against STA and Joey had a nice give and go with Brown after Brown was back checking on the right side then threw a pass cross ice to Joey who kicked it back to him for the easy path to net and Brown fired over Zevnik's shoulder.. Then for Joey's goal, Brown was battling in the corner and eventually got it out to funk off to side who hit Joey in front of net and he backhanded one in... That's a pretty good summary of how things have gone since and the second line was dominant in that win against STA. The HUB gave top three stars to Dugas, Anderson & Brown - yeah that's a cream puff opponent- LOL Same with getting 3 of 5 G's against M'head - another cream puff opponent??)
Do your homework before challenging mine. My stat said the 2nd line had 5 G's in 8 games before Joey and there's 5 G just against STA and Moorhead, with Joey.. And of the 8 pre-Joey games mentioned, they scored 7 or more G's in 4 of them against opponents like SSP, Mahtomedi, & Lakeville N..
Just watch the sectionals, the 2nd line will play a bigger & bigger role..

I said -" didn't change balance between just those two, 1st & 2nd" i.e. Ice time didn't go down for 1st compared to 2nd which are the only two lines we were comparing here.. Joey Anderson is not the first 8th grader to play Varsity at Hill and he won't be the last...kudos to the kid for being as good as he is and as a hockey fan it will be great to watch this kid while he's here, but can we please get off this kids tip and stop idolizing him....and wait until his balls drop and then see where he's at in a few years. The kids good but some of you sound like his personal propanda machine

You're post is basically the reason that this forum is nearly unbearable to read. A person can't post a single message on here without negative response after negative response. Here's an idea: lets just post results only. Why discuss anything at all because the second a topic that interests at least a few people gets posted, out comes the snotty comments?Tenoverpar wrote:Joey Anderson is not the first 8th grader to play Varsity at Hill and he won't be the last...kudos to the kid for being as good as he is and as a hockey fan it will be great to watch this kid while he's here, but can we please get off this kids tip and stop idolizing him....and wait until his balls drop and then see where he's at in a few years. BLSPEC...easy cat, as you can see I acknowledge the kids skill...all I'm saying is maybe back off on the best ever type of stuff and instead just root for the kid. Maybe he is the next ONE out of Minnesota, who knows. He's one of many quality players in a great program, perhaps his early success is in large part to the linemates he is playing with and the chemistry they seem to have instantly formed. I'm not sure where you see negativity as opposed to more of a EASY kids which is what I was trying to say....sorry you're offended, you shouldn't be
Re: b
Agreed...let's keep things in perspective...Joey is a very good player but let's see where he is in a few years...remember Joey is a freshman by age and there have been some great 9th grade players to play high school hockey...so enjoy the rest of the playoffs and let's hope he and the Pioneers can make it to the big stage for all to see...Tenoverpar wrote:BLSPEC...easy cat, as you can see I acknowledge the kids skill...all I'm saying is maybe back off on the best ever type of stuff and instead just root for the kid. Re: b
and the original post wasn't about Joey as an individual, it was about how well 2nd line has jelled since he came up with Willie Brown playing like his old self and the second line now almost playing on par with first, with respect to scoring comparison.. In fact the only stat I initially gave were line stats and how 1st line out scored 2nd 19-5 in the 8 games before Joey came up but only 23-19 in the 8 games after Joey came up.. Joey had 15 points in those 8 games while Brown had 18 (Funk had 12) Big Change from 6 weeks ago and having two potent lines is critical for Hill advancing as far as last year...BlueLineSpecial wrote:I just get stressed out come section time, lol  :twisted:Tenoverpar wrote:BLSPEC...easy cat, as you can see I acknowledge the kids skill...all I'm saying is maybe back off on the best ever type of stuff and instead just root for the kid. No one is idolizing Joey, it's about new-found chemistry of a line that had been dogging it for most of year.. Bogey Man captured this in a nutshell as well by saying "Let me translate some of this debate......Joey Anderson obviously has the ability to make others around him better players....end of story. if joey is such a great player why didn't he lead one of his Roseville teams past first round of district playoffs? He scores 8 goals against 6 of the worst teams in HS hockey playing for a HS that recuits like no other and now he's the superstar GO BEARS GO RAIDERS and Still pony up and ride over the Hill

Have you read the discussion at all? And "Worst teams in HS hockey"? Oh yea, STA and Moorhead are the "worst teams". Arguably made the biggest impact in HM's victory over STA, and he and his line dominated the Moorhead game.hockeymannorth wrote:if joey is such a great player why didn't he lead one of his Roseville teams past first round of district playoffs? He scores 8 goals against 6 of the worst teams in HS hockey playing for a HS that recuits like no other and now he's the superstar GO BEARS GO RAIDERS and Still pony up and ride over the Hill

Out of respect for Joey Anderson I passed on responding to this thread, but now I think it would be a disservice to Joey not to put this in perspective.
The thread really isn't about Joey Anderson or the Hill Murray second line. It's a nauseating, inappropriate and unneccsary promotional piece overhyping an relatively average accomplishment. I can only guess at the motives behind it and I am sure the team REALLY apreciates it

Here's the facts about Joeys contribution;
#Rank - Opp - Score - (Joeys pts)
# 3 St.Thomas 3-1 (1G, 1A)
# 25 Tartan 5-1 (1A)
# 28 Moorhead 6-4 (1G)
# 38 Mahtomedi 7-0 (1A)
# 71 N. St. Paul 8-4 (1A)
# 90 Henry Sibley 7-0 (1G)
#112 Simley 10-2(2G, 1A)
#128 SP ComoPark 12-1(1G)
#131 Richfield 12-0(3G, 2A)
So 16 points through 9 games.
The AVERAGE rank of these teams is 70th!!
In fact, 14 of Joey's 16 points have come against teams ranked 25-131 and MOST of Joeys points (9 of 16) have come against teams ranked lower than 110!
That's a schedule that ranks right up there with Achiever Academy, Spring lake Park and Cooper, except All 3 of those programs have youngsters with much more impressive accomplishments.
Both Trey Rooney (42 pts) from Cooper and Austen Long (45 pts) from Spring Lake Park had to actually LEAD THEIR TEAMS and did so without the benefit of linemates like Funk, Mills and Brown ... not to mention the puck moving defenseman that feed Mr. Anderson against these 70th+ ranked juggernauts.
Heck, Baron Thompson from Achiever Academy (an ACTUAL 8th grader) is a full year+ younger than Joey and racked up 46 points through 23 games (including an eye-popping 31 goals) against a similar schedule. Again, without benefit of "elite" Hill Murray linemates and defenseman.
Baron: http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/roster_playe ... son=100281
Hell, have a look at Maxwell Zimmer - a freshman just weeks older Joey, who has played a Class AA schedule in the Lake Conference AND Section 6AA and has piled up 27 points in 27 games. Some would suggest that accomplishment is 10 X's as impressive.
Joey is a good player and I don't doubt he will go on to great things. This thread to me is not about Joey, whom I have a great deal of respect for.
This thread is nauseating to me because it attemptis to elevate an individual at the expense of his team mates and anybody who knows anything about this great game of hockey knows that runs counter to what it's all about. It also couldn't have come at a worse time, as I'm sure all teams love prima-donna distractions at playoff time.
Joey Anderson, I suspect, would be the first to agree with that sentiment, as great hockey players recognize that greatness comes through the team.
Not taking anything away from Joey, as posting a point a game against the Top 90 teams in Minnesota High School Hockey is good - NOT great - and hardly worth a post suggesting he's the Hill Murray savior. Comparitive to what some other top youngsters are doing throughout the State, Joey's 9 game stint in the show against mostly bottom feeding teams ranks as "meh" to average, although I am sure there are big things in his future.
WW and HF1394 - you aren't doing him any favors with this type of public display of individualism. Especially when your spin flys in the face of the facts

He is in 8th grade - how can some people say he is actually a 9th grader. He's not. it is what it is. Do you really think his parents held him back for hockey? Some kids are just not socially ready to start kindergarten at 5 yrs old and their parents wait until they are 6. There's advantages socially to being the oldest and not the youngest.Any reason to rip on a school with a very good hockey team made up of very skilled players. Want these kids to stay "home" and play for the association the "owe" all of their success to? Give them a reason to stay. Kids and parents, for that matter, are going to look and find the place that is best for their kids be it scholastically or athletically. Can't fault them for that. All the complaints about where kids go and how good they are just reek of jealousy.

He's not. it is what it is.
Time to lock this up it obviously run is course

More evidence
As I said in my post last week, sectionals would continue to reveal the rise of Hill's second line since Joey Anderson came up which also totally revitalized Willie Browns game. I gave the stats of 1st & 2nd line scoring comparatively in the 8 games before and after Joey came up i.e. pre-joey 8 games 19-5 in favor of 1st line - post Joey games 23-19 1st vs. 2nd.
As stated I said you will see this continue in sectionals and it has. The top 3 scorers in post-season are 1)Brown 2) Funk 3) Anderson (tie). And more importantly, in the critical game with Stillwater tonight the second line scored the first 4 goals (3 by Brown, 1 By Funk - & 2 great Assists by Joey) before a couple of late Empty Netters.. Trust me, Anderson and Brown together are like fire and fuel, with Funk grinding away and playing his role..Brown is showing why he is considered a top 10 JR F and Joey why he is one of best 98's period..
To all those with the LOL replies last week you may want to check the box scores since my initial post and maybe watch the tape of the Stillwater Game.. Hockey Hub #1 Star - Brown - #2 Star - Anderson.. Same two stars as their last regular season game against M'Head.. The point all along being that Hill, unlike most of the season, now has two dynamic lines that can match up with anyone's top 2.. Proof is in the Pudding... LOL all the way to the cup..

HM's 2nd line was once again the best line on the ice last night with Brown & Anderson being special. The work of Anderson on Hill's 3rd goal (I believe) was fun to watch (you can see it on hockeyhub).
Stillwater had chances but just couldn't finish. Dugas may not have been on the top of his game but came up big at time.
Lex was not happy with his team's overall game. They play like this on Friday and things could be interesting. I for one do not want interesting & expect Hill to play much better and handle the Bears.
