Well for starters, Hilgert (goalie) is from St. Cloud area, the Gardiner sisters are from a small town outside of Winnipeg, and Hanowski is from Little Falls.northfan wrote:I have been out of the area for awhile. Can someone that knows this program tell me exactly how many kids that play (goalie, 2 lines and 4 D on a girls team) are recruits I hear it is a joke.

Haha..... Nicely said!! Chew on that IZZY!! Too bad its come to this, because most north teams would have been rooting for warroad, but he has single-handedly ruined the town's ( or at least the people that are from warroad)and the state's perception of warroad hockey.
Nicely done Blake!

Definition of a great team
Well here goes. I am betting that most people are thinking about this but are a little hesitant to put it into words. I was personally appalled and shocked at the Warroad coaches behavior on the bench both during his interview on television (you know the one where he had some very choice words to say) along with the press conference after the championship game. While trying not to be biased, I can understand that this team has never been in that type of a situation where they have been "blown out" during a game. We all know that they have done their fair share of that to many countless other teams and I am guessing that many in this forum have daughters that have played against them to the mercy of the endless scoring of goals no matter what the difference was on the scoreboard. However, the definition of a great team is knowing how to win and how to lose regardless of the final score. I think it is called humility. As was stated in a previous post, every team can be beat regardless of their ranking in the state tournament or their record. It is knowing how to handle that loss that makes the difference.

I watched/listened to the press conference and am left wondering, what did he say that some people find so objectionable? I did not see the TV interview so maybe that's where "he had some choice words to say" that were offensive to some.HockeyDude13 wrote:The press conference - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTEMkHc5sEg

He said the "A" word. Honestly, of all the reasons to not like Marvin, this should be way low on anyone's list. People are just looking for reasons to hate him if that's what the issue they had with the interviews. They don't have to try that hard to find reasons.MNHockeyFan wrote:I watched/listened to the press conference and am left wondering, what did he say that some people find so objectionable? I found his interview to be honest & from the heart.hometown warrior wrote:Hopefully we will see a coaching resignation. He has ruined Warroads reputation all in an effort to feed his own ego. Pretty evident when you hear the interview. Promoted his own to no end.
While I don't have the benefit of hometown's insight, I sat across from Coach Marvin today at the banquet. I found him to be humble. In fact, I didn't know he was Coach Marvin until pretty late in the day.
From an outsider's perspective, he coaches for a tiny town about 200 miles from the arctic circle, and takes 'em to state five years in a row. And beats some pretty solid AA teams en route. He's raised some decent hockey players to boot.
I didn't see him ruin Warroad's reputation. What wrecks a town's reputation for me is anonymous ad hominen attacks on internet forums. Hardly the stuff of a Warrior.
Ditto. Thread should be titled "Can Anyone Whine About Warroad"MNHockeyFan wrote:I watched/listened to the press conference and am left wondering, what did he say that some people find so objectionable? From Mark Bingham:
How 'bout that. An actual rational post seemingly not based on pettiness.I found his interview to be honest & from the heart.

"Hopefully a resignation." Why? Yeah...coach Marvin said something that warrants a resignation. Get a grip.

While not a fan of Warroad for their recruiting practices and refusal to play AA, I watched the video and, other than a few cuss words, didn't really see anything offensive or smarmy (I'm indifferent to their coach and this is the first time I've seen him speak). I think the coach basically said we got our butts kicked. We beat up on them the first game, they had Dani for the second game, and totally outplayed us. Maybe he took a little bit away from Blake by saying that Warroad didn't play well or got a few unlucky bounces, but I think he gave nearly full credit to Blake for playing a much better game. Again, only my outside perspective from a 6-minute interview, without any pre-conceived notions, but that's the way it looked to me.
