7A FINALS DULUTH MARSHALL vs. DULUTH DENFELD (2-27-13)

Post by pipersniper12 »

Shaping up to be a good 7A final between these two Duluth schools. Denfeld won the only regular season matchup by the score of 8-3 (1-31-13) in Marshall's barn.

Does anyone know where this one will be broadcast and Internet or radio. I live in Rochester and lived in Duluth until 2000. Would love updates on this one from anyone at this game. I will definitely be looking for some updates as often as possible.

I'd like to see Denfeld win but I believe Marshall wins this one by a pair. 4-2 or 5-3

I'll take Denfeld 4-3. Marshall is playing much better than when they met earlier, but I think Thompson proves to be the better goalie in this one.

My heart is with Denfeld, my head is sort of with Marshall. Had a conversation with a co-worker this morning. I mentioned that Marshall owes Denfeld for how they got spanked last game, and he replied "Denfeld owes Marshall for the last decade".

Don't know about My9 TV but I as a DirecTV customer will be watching the game on WDIO channel 10. Same thing with the East-Rapids contest on Thursday.

My9 shouldn't be showing it, specifically because WDIO will carry it.

Marshall repeats. They did a fine job of locking down in the 3rd, and Denfeld had no answer for the Hilltopper trap. Way too much skating straight into the defense. Flaherty was great in goal, too.

Unfortunate end to an otherwise great season for Denfeld. See ya at the X next week, Marshall.

Marshall repeat... that means another fold. Denfeild had a good combination of size and speed that would have given them a chance to do somethig, Marshall has no chance. I predict a two and out.

There you go Marshall... prove me me I'm wrong.

To me, this game represents why Marshall is a high profile northern program and Denfeld isn't. Yes, Denfeld has beaten Marshall two of the last three years and they beat Hermantown and East this year. However, outside of this year, Denfeld's record has been atrocious against Marshall, East, and Hermantown, which is amazing considering that Denfeld has fielded some good teams over the year that are equal to the northern powers. I mean, you'd think when you play 1 or 2 goal games every year that the head-to-head would even out.

I'm not trashing Denfeld. They've always been the scrappy competitor that gives other teams a heck of a game. But they never seem to get over the hump no matter how close they get.

So for those in west end hating Marshall and East for snagging a lot of Denfeld's players, look at games like these to figure it out. Smalley has to realize that programs get their attraction from making it to state (and to a certain extent being successful at state). Until Denfeld wins these games, they will always be the red-haired stepchild of quality programs in the Twin Ports.
