Looks like two blowouts and two competitive games. Would love to see some upsets in the semis!

About as expected--we have a 3-v.-6 match-up between Duluth Marshall and Hermantown, though it appears they've switched the 7 and the 8 (as if that really matters). Also, it shows they are willing to have northern teams go at it in the first round.

I look forward to a possible Marshall vs. Marshall consolation semifinal.

Hermantown/Marshall in the first round will be really good.

This will produce some really good semifinal match ups.

Was just about to post the same thing. 5 south teams and go figure the 2 schools 15 minutes away from one another that are in the same conference play each other :(

One week from today I expect many will be planning to do something other than watch the Hawks and Cadets play for the championship for the 3rd year in a row. A 3-peat and then move up to AA is ahead for the Cadets. (Yawn)... next week, a nice Saturday afternoon nap is top of my list, but I may just have to tune in for the annual "Plante" foot in mouth "We're the Public School Champs" cry that is always entertaining.

In the semis I expect we'll see Breck/Hermantown and EGF/STA. These games should be good. And the quarters without New Ulm? Yes (thank you)!

Yes it is nice to see a new team representing 3a. On a side note New Ulm beat Marshall 4-2 and 7-1 this year. It will get ugly against Breck. I will say that in last years quarterfinals there was only one good game Thief River 5 New Ulm 1. The rest of them were blowouts.....[/quote]

EGF by 3
My take:

Game 1- I think Breck knows trying to play three games in as many days is hard and using 4 lines is a must. Breck 12- Marshall 0 :)

Game 1- Hermantown 6- D. Marshall 2

Game 3- St. Thomas 7- Apollo 1

Game 4- EGF 5- Lourdes 3

Apollo is so bad, they are going to get the crap kicked out of them! Don't deserve to be in the tourney at all! Not the best team in their area, NOT EVEN THE BEST TEAM IN THEIR CITY!

I like to watch high school hockey. You never know what can happen. It will be nearly impossible for anyone to beat STA but that possibility is always out there. I think there are a couple of teams that will give them a run for their money.

I am a Rochester Lourdes graduate so I'm pulling for them. I like the match-up they were given against East Grand Forks. I don't know anything about their team other than looking at their schedule. They have a great record but it was against all Northern teams and that's hard to gauge when there are no trips down to Minneapolis / St. Paul to play. The Totino Grace game is the only indicator.

I think this will be a tight game but I see Lourdes winning 4-2. Rochester Lourdes has played a tougher schedule and has some highly skilled 1st line players that have been to 4 consecutive state tournaments. Nerves are the biggest killer in big games and I think they will be able to manage them better.

Just my take. We'll see what happens.

I think that some of the EGF kids might have had bigger nerves going into the game with Warroad, than they will for Wednesday...Warroad has been a major obstacle for EGF to overcome for years, and they pretty much manhandled them on Thursday...defensively, they'be really tightened up in front of Lindstrom. Lindstrom has really progressed through the year. Aside from the first TRF game, I've been very impressed. Offensively, they've been able to generate quite a bit of shots, as well as keep possession of the puck for extended periods of time. The biggest concern for me with EGF, is their ability to finish...as much as they took the play to Warroad, it still was basically a one goal game. They had a bunch if opportunities, but seemed to put the puck right into King's belly.

I don't know enough about Lourdes to make a good prediction, but I wouldn't sleep on this EGF squad...they really have a lot of high quality players (9, I think) that were part of the final 54 in the Reebok High Performance camps...while many of these kids are young, it's not like they fell backwards into the state tournament...quite a few of them were on the second place bantam a team from last year. Maybe all this doesn't really mean much, but this may be the beginning of a great run for EGF...

I've watched Apollo play several times this season and the only way they don't lose by double-digits on Wednesday is if STA plays without a goalie.

The only allowed 1 at state last year. I don't see them shutting everyone out this season; I think Breck will likely score on them just like they did in the first two meetings :-$

So true, they are horrific. The only part of their team that is not a outrageous weak spot is their first line

I can't wait until next year when we have a better chance of seeing less lopsided games in the first round of class A than we have in so many years. I think these predictions for Apollo/STA are off. I don't want to rip Apollo because I believe they were playing the best of any team in 6A this last month. With that said, STA beat Little Falls 7 to 0 in the quarterfinals last year and Apollo is no better than last years LF team while 2013 STA is quite superior to their 2012 version. Also, Apollo gave up over 30 shots to an average at best LF offense in the section championship while only getting under 20 shots total themselves. And if that isn't enough they have a freshman goalie. I wouldn't be surprised to see STA have 50+ shots even with calling off the dogs in the first period. I hope I'm wrong, but I also see no way Apollo gives up less than 10 goals and scores more than 1, if that even.

Any of Hermantown/Breck/EGF are capable of winning on a given day vs STA. Cadets are the prohibitive favorite though.

Would rather play Hermantown than Breck in the final.
