Overtime tournament rules

Post by Mountaineer »

I saw in another post that someone mentioned "Good thing it's the last game of the night so we can play until there's a winner." What is the rule if say Duluth East/Edina goes 4 or 5 ot's tonight? Do they really stop the game to start the next one? Tonight has the feeling of a late night one way or another. Thanks in advance for answers.

Another thread discussed this already. If any of the first 3 games of the day goes 3 OT periods, it will be stopped and resumed the next morning. If the last games happens to go into OT, it is played out until there is a winner.

Directly from a handout from the MSHSL here are the OT rules for all 4 days of the tourney:

Overtime limitation for League Tournament Play: In case of a tie at the end of regular play, follow the procedure outlined:
1. Teams remain in the bench area.
2. 3-minute rest period; 8-minute sudden death overtime period.
3. Make ice and play 17-minute sudden death overtime period.
4. 3-minute rest period; 8-minute sudden death overtime period.
5. If tie remains, follow procedure as indicated in 3 and 4 above.

DO NOT change goals for overtime period.
