Why does the North 14s have all TRF, Roseau, Crookston, EGF, etc. ? It should be called the way upper NW team - How does this team get put together? There is nobody from Rapids, Duluth area, range etc.

You might have to turn the map around to justify why the West team is from Elk River, Orono, Breck etc..... west of what? Wisconsin?

The zones for this tournament have always been rather odd...

Kind of fun to watch in any case though... Other than the "feeling out" process that takes place when you put together teams, the young men are talented for sure. Do the scores mean anything, not really. Pretty much the same gig when you do any of these types of festivals or tournaments... Usually by the last game there is better team play and familiarity.

Kind of a "shinny" atmosphere to it.

Invitations are sent out to individuals. Not everyone who gets an invite accepts it, for any number of reasons. Probably some kids already in pre-season mode for spring sports, and others who are ready for a break after a long season. Some families might not think it's worth the cost (disparate impact on families from Up North who'd have to add in lodging expenses).

The organizers are probably dangling the prospect of scouts watching these games as a reason to accept an invitation. This could be a boon for a kid that plays out in the sticks for a bad team, but if you were a sophomore/junior playing for DE or Rapids? No shortage of scouts taking notes during their high school seasons.

As for who gets the invite? Might have been some reliance upon the Elite Prep (aka "D-league") rosters. And if that's the case, then I vaguely recall some discussion last Fall about why Duluth East wasn't well represented in that league. But I could be wrong.

Interesting that its the same weekend as the Xposure tournament at SSM. Since that tournament is put on by the MN elite league (in part), I suspect the rosters at the Gopher festival have little to do with the Elite league

What I had always thought of the rosters for this tournament was they're still all good players, just maybe the less notable/popular ones..? In my experience with it, many of my teammates/opponents in this tournament played post high school but weren't the premiere names invited to the Elite League. Most everyone gets an invite to Xposure, I think that's more of a money maker...

Could be. I know Xposure, anyone can apply. I don't think everyone is accepted, I could be wrong. Looks like a fair number of out of staters on those rosters (?SSM students, I don't know). It looks like its a joint effort of the elite league and SSM, this year, anyway. Who runs the Gopher Festival?

Names listed on the invite letter are charlie graves and bob shier.
I guess it seems to me if this was going to be a "premier" festival, they should really incorporate a web presence. If nothing else to get the basic questions taken care of.... heck for less than additional buck a player, you could have a website....
Just a couple cents worth....:-)

I had a chance to watch both tournaments this weekend. My take was that the Gopher Festival had better skill level, fewer players per team, better passing support (team play). Exposure seamed a bit more of a grinding physical style of play, some of the players were not as skilled, birth years ranged from 97 to 94. I didnt see any scouts at either tournament other than a few MNJHL at the exposure. Half of the Coaches were affiliated with the Elite1 teams the other half were from SSM.

Cost difference Gopher Festival 4 games, 3 lines, 2 -50 min run time periods $200.00. Exposure 5 games 4 lines, 2- 25 min stop time periods $350.00.
