WHL Territory
Alos, I dont believe Illinois is in the WHH's territory otherwise there would be players from IL.

I believe St. Louis is not in the WHL territory or half their team (Jr. Blues) would be in that top 40 list. Logan Brown, Ty Farmer, Zach Solow, Woll, and the list goes on with that team. This team did not play Rosemount and if it did, double digit beat down would have happened. St. Louis Selects is a Tier II team. A very good Tier II team, but not even in the same rink as the Blues.
The comparison is 98 AAA teams to Bantam "AA" teams that are full full of 97s. Using Hockeymannorth's logic what does this say about Bantam AA hockey when you look at Rosemount scores against other teams like:
3-4 L vs Prior Lake
4-4 T vs Prior Lake
1-2 L vs Centennial
4-5 L vs Edina
3-2 W vs Edina
The win vs Edina was against Edinas single A team in a SO, a very impressive team
1-2 L vs Burnsville
0-4 L vs Burnsville
1-1 T vs Woodbury
Some good players in Bantam AA, but its no wonder why the AAA teams get more attention.
Re: WEHP Prospects Report as of 3/20/2013
Any update to this list following the Anaheim camp this weekend? A couple of MN boys showed up along with most of the SoCal and AZ boys listed but there were also half a dozen from NorCal yet they aren't on the list. 2 NorCal goalies looked good as well as 1 D and 2 F'sdreampuck wrote:New list with some changes

I would say a lot of the local players were there more for the ice time with no intent of playing WHL but to come from MN, MI, IN shows a certain level of interest.old goalie85 wrote:Thanks. Monn had a nice year for Rosemount. One of the better Bantams I saw last year. Dad was a good football player surprised they would want to go the Jr route. Good luck to him, good kid.

MN Kids
There were only 4 kids from MN that accepted their invations to attend this camp. Many more were invited, but declined.
In addition to Jason Efnor (Goalie from Chanhassen) and Charlie Monn (forward from Rosemount)
Both Goalies.
Drew Scites (Compuware) via Maple Grove
Cole Weaver (Russell Stover) via Champlin Park
I was at every session, I know the league very well and have no kids involved, I do know the 98 group of MN kids very well.
Monn had a pretty good showing scoring at least 2-3 goals in 3 games and probably a couple assists as well. Weaver was the best of the goalies with Scites being very good as well. Scites and Weaver were on the same team and were two of the top gaolies at the camp. Efnor had a tough couple outings but rebounded to have a good 3rd game.

Re: MN Kids
I thought Scites was ok but didn't wow me. It wasn't a good venue for goalies in my opinion. Monn was probably in the bottom half of the forwardsLecroixwhl wrote:There were only 4 kids from MN that accepted their invations to attend this camp. Many more were invited, but declined.

Very tough venue for goalies to seperate themselves. There were four teams with between 18-20 skaters and three goalies. Each team played the other teams once for a total of three, 60 minute games. Each goalie got one period per game, for a total of three periods in three games. It is tough to get a rythem going when you only play one period at a time, especially when you don't start the game. Having said that, Scites (Compuware via Maple Grove) did look solid. He is a big kid who looked solid. I believe he gave up 2 goals in his three periods. Weaver (Russell Stover via Champlain Park) was also solid. Efnor (Chanhassen) made some nice saves but did struggle a bit.
There was a little better opportunity to judge the skaters. Their were between 18-20 skaters on each team (a few boys were MIA). There was some movement of players between teams to balance the competition. Monn (Rosemount) had 3 goals and 3 assists in 3 games. That tied him for third on his team in points for the weekend. It looked a lot like try-out hockey, with a lot of individual play and not a lot of passing and play making. Two of the teams had 11 forwards so there were no set lines, thus not a lot of continuity.
There were literelly a couple of dominating players this past weekend. None were from Minnesota. My question is where were the rest of the top '98 Minnesota kids. I'll predict that four or five of the Minnesota '98's will end up playing in the WHL. Some are listed above, some are neither listed above, nor on the Western Elite Hockey Prospects newsletter Top 40 US '98 list. Time will tell. You had two '97's from Minnesota make the jump just since the high school hockey season ended. I'll bet that more follow.

Goalies
Scites gave up 4 goals in 3 periods - 2 soft ones in first period, but rebounded with 2 strong periods after that. Giving up only 1 in each period stopping several good chances.
Scites was measured at 5"11 195lbs.
Weaver gaave up 3 goals in 3 periods - no softies - shut out in first period, even better second period stopping several high quality scoring chances when the team was completey out played. Also a great 3rd period even though 2 goals scored, both were very good goals and he made many great saves.
Weaver was measured at 6'0" 158 lbs.
It was tough for goalies, the gaolie evaluation hour really didnt do a very good job. They did not do any goalie movement/skating drills, no technical type drills at all or puck handling skills. Also no conditioning or grit type drills to see who is willing to compete and in good shape.
Weaver and Scites are both very strong skaters and puck handlers and in very good conidtion. It is my opinion they would have seperated themselves even more.

Let me get this straight..... Kids from Minnesota (Hockey hotbed) flew to Cali for a tryout?
For those of you who think Minnesota is THE hockey hotbed for the US, you might want to look at this year's NTDP Camp Invitees. Of the 30 forwards invited to try out for next year's team, only one was from Minnesota. You had exactly zero goalies invited. Minnesota's saving grace was that you had four (of eighteen total) defensemen invited to try out. And 1997's has always been a strong group for Minnesota.
There is a big, big world out there people.

Did the WHL pay for their trip out there? If not,WCC wrote:MrBoDangles Posted:

Unlike Cali, scouts are common in the rinks up here in Sota.

I'm sure he didn't have to pay thousands in travel/stay to attend the tryout.CalHockey wrote:Peter was there checking things out! Seemed quite chummy with the WHL folks. Guess they pave the way for him!MrBoDangles wrote:No way......?Lecroixwhl wrote:Funny,
