Elite League D1 % over the years

Post by Granttenn »

With the Elite League coming up in the Fall I was just curious if anyone is aware of any stats relating to what % of Elite League players go on to D1. Or even what % of Elite League players that play as Juniors make it to D1. Or, finally, what % of players that make one of the two Elite League All Star Teams go on to D1. Could even break it down further by performance besides just All Star team selection i.e. of top 50 pt scorers, or whatever, what % make it.(Defense is more difficult).. I just find stats that predict future performance interesting and the Elite League is such a great source because the sample size in terms of play is large enough (i.e. 20 games) and it's such an apples to apples league because everyone is playing the same competition, with the exception of your own team of course.

Not hard to calculate this since the hockeyhub.com has Elite League stats going back for the previous few years (and I'm sure someone has a pts list going back many years) and there are many databases that have an alphabetical list of college commitments by year.

I just don't think there is enough data out there for parents and players that gives them an idea of what there kids chances are of making it to the D1 level. Yes, we all know that they will find you if you are talented and you should be hearing by some schools by Jr year if you are on the D1 radar but it would be nice to have some quantitative information out there that is tied directly to certain milestones and High School performance factors so they just have a ballpark idea about how tough it is going to be..

You always see this for NBA etc like, your chances of making it to the NBA if you are a high school senior are x% and if you are a D1 player that goes up to y% - which are typically astronomical odds but I would like to see better high school hockey data and plan on following the last 3 years of Elite Leage data forward myself and analyzing it as these kids get to commitment stage.

elite and d1

for that percentage to have any value, i think you'd have to know which guys already had their D1 commits locked up before skating in Elite for the first time. For example, Labosky of BSM knew before his junior HS season that he was committed to CC. Seems kinda counterproductive to include guys in those situations as part of any percentage.

Another way to look at it is who got D1 commits without skating in Elite, either by choice or because they weren't given the opportunity.
