Sorry, someone asked me if I had some of the lists that I've seen and I'm still a newbie on this board and deleted the message so I forgot who asked. Here is one set of rankings I have come across from a scout of US kids in WHL territory. (Credit Hammy on GPL). I will post the others I've seen as soon as I recall where I saw them.

I think Chychrun was drafted into the USHL entry draft. Pastujov, if not returning to Honeybaked may be off to Ontario with another top 98 or two. These two names along with Lindgren are truly in the top 5 or 6 98s in the country. Joey not yet even though he's just a (red shirt) 8th grader. I heard it said that dad was working harder on the scouts at the 15 festival than son was on the ice. The things wrong with YOUTH hockey.

Someone down here estimated Florida has four of the top 12-15 kids that age in the country. Hard to tell before they get together at Select camp!

Which list? That's what I'd like to see. Pretty sure Chychrun is up there and Pastujov played a huge role for the Bantam champs. Solow was a top player on his Blues team and I've always been impressed with Gallant.

You're saying there are 100 players better than the lesser of these four?

That bodes well for the 1998s.

As someone else stated, his family is from Duluth. His father was a teammate of Robb Stauber's on Denfeld's 1986 State Tournament Team that finished 3rd. If my memory is correct, Anderson was captain of that team.

I'm told the Anderson family continues to spend a lot of time in Duluth, so Joey's connection here goes back a few years.

I haven't seen Joey's dad much over the last 25+ years. But I can tell you he was an excellent student and even better guy back in the day. I'm guessing not much has changed. So while I acknowledge it's a bit peculiar to have an 8th grader make a college commitment so early, now knowing who the father is leads me to believe from afar there's a reasonable explanation, such as--as others have stated--the kid loves it here and figures he might as well shut down the recruiting process (or at least slow it down, knowing a lot can happen over the next 4-6 years).

I can't think of a single reasonable explanation. Just plain silly.

As to the dad, I'm sure, like all of us, he's changed somewhat since being in high school 25+ years ago.

He's a very talented young player and has tons of potential, but committing to a college at age 14 is silly. A verbal commitment 4-5 years ahead of time is pretty meaningless. His parents should know better.

I take it back. I'm from St. Paul of course and love my city, but I have a great fondness for Duluth. I was just there last week and watched Bruins-Penguins in a West Duluth bar with the locals. They love the game like I do. I did not know dad is a Duluthian. I have no problem with his allegiance and commitment to UMD. Looking forward to the next few years with Joey at Hill-Murray.

Hahahahahaaaa now that is funny! Joey is a great young hockey player, and who cares why he chose to commit to UMD?!? Congrats to him, I hope nothing but the best for him in his hockey career.
