History Project: Old Rosters Needed

Post by karl(east) »

I'm in the process of putting together a database with the post-HS careers of players from AA contenders, sorted by team and year). This basically involves me finding teams' rosters and then punching everyone's name into Hockeydb.com.

I already have:
-Everything since 2010, which the Hub covers (though I'm not bothering with the past few years yet, since lots of those players are still in HS)
-Hill-Murray rosters, thanks to their lovely website
-Duluth East rosters dating back to the dawn of man (or the 1960s, whichever came first)
-All State Tournament entrants since 2008
-Just about everyone East has played in the section finals or at State since 1991, though these rosters are not necessarily complete
-Every state champion, whose rosters I have pilfered from GMHF's Past Champions Tournament threads. (I believe these come from that Let's Play Hockey book...does that include rosters of teams that didn't win? Either way, I should get myself a copy.)
-A few other scattered teams, such as mid-00s Cloquet and Grand Rapids

For the time being, I'd like to limit it to AA teams that went to State or contended for a section title, though it could grow from there. I'm also focusing on the 90s and 00s right now, as Hockeydb grows increasingly unreliable as one goes further back. (Even for the 00s it's not perfect, and there are definitely some major gaps in D-III stuff in the 90s.)

So, if you have old State Tourney programs or other info on teams that fit the above criteria, please pass it along when you find the time. You can post the rosters to this thread or send me a PM or email, if you'd prefer.

I hope to get the spreadsheet uploaded at some point so that people can look at it, correct errors, etc.

It's been interesting to look at a bunch of these teams in retrospect, and to see just how much talent some of them had, and whether our perceptions of some of them at the time were accurate or not. Obviously, post-HS careers don't necessarily indicate how good a team was in high school, since some players peak early, bloom late, or choose to do other things in life after they graduate, but it can still be instructive.

An update on this front: I got my hands on the LPH book, which took care of just about everything I wanted through 2000. I'm still looking for anything from 2001-2007...basically, if you have old State Tourney programs or team rosters, I'd love it if you could take a moment to copy them down and send them to me, either via this thread or a private message. Thanks!

Im not sure if the person in charge of geocities.com/dent0110 still checks their email but you could try getting in contact with them. They used to have all of the stats and roster from around 00-08

You can have some luck with http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://geo ... m/dent0110

Click the 2/19 snapshot and use the archives from that link. The above should be one link. If you have to, go to archive.org and type geocities.com/dent0110
