Did anyone here if that passed this weekend? And if so, what the details are?

There were 48 14UA teams, and 9 14B's last year. About 35 of the 48 A-teams fall in the AA tier. IMO, due to those numbers, it doesn't seem to make much sense to create a 3rd tier of girls hockey at the 14 level. All the time and expense that would go into running a single-A league/tournament for 13 (or so) teams? I could see this working at the 12's, but not at 14's (IMO).

I don't believe the number is 35. I think it is more like 20-25. The idea wasn't to create a 3rd tier. The idea was to eliminate 14B. The reason for doing so was so the lowest tier would be a viable option rather than just nine teams. Under the AA/A format all teams would be able to play each other. Well it sounds like they actually will be doing something like this. They are leaving it 14A/B but they will be allowing all teams to play each other. 12U doesn't have a need to be changed. 14U does. This might allow some teams that should be B to classify themselves as B. Whether or not this is an effective solution remains to be seen. And I still have not heard the details other than they are opening it up to cross level play.

Below is the list of all the 14A teams for 2012-13. If using the boys PW and Bantam AA/A designations, there are 35 AA teams, and 13 A (2 from WI). I could be wrong on a couple. But still, I'm pretty close.

I understand why MNH "wants" more B teams - it because it just doesn't look good to have 9 teams in a league. But is it realistic to force the issue? I don't mean to hurt anyone's feeling, but why would an A team want to play a B team, or the other way around?

I think you are missing me here? Only two levels not three. Many of those so called A teams in your scenario are closer to the "B" level than they are to the AA level. So using your comparison you might have the breakdown like this:

D2
Highland--B
River Falls--Wis
Roseville--A
Stillwater Black--A
Stillwater Red-- B
White Bear Lake--A
Western Wi Stars--Wis
D3
Wayzata Blue--A
OMGHA Orange--A
Wayzata Gold--B
Minneapolis--A
OMGHA Black--B
Wayzata Black--B
Orono--B
Hopkins--B
D5
Buffalo Black--A
Sartell Green--A
STMA--A
Buffalo White--B
Litchfield / DC--B
Sartell Blue--B
D6
Edina Green--A
Eden Prairie--A
Minnetonka--A
Chaska/Chan--A
Edina White--B
D8
Woodbury/CG--A
Rochester--A
Lakeville--A
Eagan--A
Owatonna--A
REV--A
Apple Valley--A
Hastings--A
D10
Blaine--A
Elk River--A
Centennial--A
Anoka--A
Andover--A
Spring Lake Park--B
CP/Rogers--B
D11
Duluth--A
D12
Grand Rapids--A
D15
Alexandria--B
Brainerd--A
D16
East Grand Forks--B
Roseau--A
Warroad--B

Eden Prairie-Chaska/Chan B
Edina B
Rochester B
Woodbury/CG B
Blaine B
Mahtomedi B
Centennial B
OMGHA B
Minnetonka B

Now you have 29 B teams and the rest are A.

Not a perfect solution but is there a perfect solution?
