Open Hockey

I scrolled several pages and didn't see an old thread. My efforts to use Search were fruitless.

My family plans on visiting the Twin Cities for a few days in mid-July. I see Super Rink has periodic open hockey. Do they get a turnout?

Any other options you'd recommend for an 11-year-old?

Hook, I am LMAO. I'll spare you the story, but I just don't have any interest in that. My son, however, somehow is really into it. He loves dropping a line in the retention pond behind our house and landed a pretty impressive bass about two weeks ago.

O-Town...Prior Lake has a cool concept at their arena called "Developmental Hockey". It's basically open ice for anybody but kids can wear equipment and bang pucks around. Usually what happens is the kids will break up and scrimmage. Often times they have younger kids on one half of the ice (or one end) and older kids on the other. Sometimes goalies show up. Cost is $5.00 per skater. You can't beat that. They have Dev hockey on July 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 21, 23, 23, 26 and 30.

BIG has "Pond Hockey" on the Olympic sheet Friday afternoons too. No idea how well attended it is, haven't been there for years.

Thanks to all for your help so far. Some posted here and some sent me a private message.

Coon Rapids is too far from where we'll be staying.

Prior Lake might work on Sunday the 21st for the Skate n' Shoot hour.

Friday the 19th is our day of arrival and we are choosing between "Pond Hockey" at BIG (split the ice with dividers, all ages, small-area drop-in games) and "PW Open Hockey" at SuperRink. Does anyone know enough about either one to say if one is better than the other? Absent any more information we'll go to Bloomington since it is near where we are staying.

Some friends have come through with some other suggestions that will allow my son to skate while we're home. Still looking to fill in some other open times during our visit.

And yes, Hook, we have found an old friend that is able to provide a fishing excursion if we can get down to his lake place.

Developmental Hockey in Prior Lake (The Dakotah) on the 21st is from 11:00am-12:30pm on Rink 1. The rink is located on the South side of Mystic Lake Casino.

One warning on the Super rink - it is the Schwan's USA Cup week. You will struggle with traffic and parking up there due to hundreds of soccer teams playing on the fields around it. On the other hand, if anyone in your group likes soccer, it is quite the spectacle.

A guy was on the back page of the sports section of the strib today with a really big, albino Muskie. Nice fish.

Now that would be a great memory, not a dangle, snipe, celly in some pick-up hockey game on the Rez. $\:D/$ $\:D/$
