Last year, YHH posted a view of the 2012 NHL draft declaring the winner being Shattuck since their program produced 4 draftees in the first 6 rounds and the State produced only one high school draftee. This year, YHH took a view of the NHL 2013 Draft and declared Bloomington the winner.

You want to use that logic, go over to Toronto prospects, Bauer Invitational in Chicago and you will find a dozen or more draft picks out of those tournaments year after year. So do those tournaments win?
By the way, incase you weren't sure, Shattuck is not a tournament. It's a school.

After the NHL draft each year, YHH has started to run an article looking at the results of the draft and trying to find out some common Minnesota connection with the players selected to base an article that essentially tries to answer the question what path did those kids go to be drafted. After all, the best hockey brains in the world did the evaluation of these players and chose them.
Last year, the connection was easy, Shattuck. Of the high school players taken in the first six rounds of the NHL draft from Minnesota, four came from the Shattuck Prep team.
In this year’s 2013 NHL draft, there was no easy connection. So this year’s post was written from the point of view of the parent in the stands at a youth tourney wondering if any of the kids on the ice would ever be selected in the NHL draft. This year the best hockey brains in the world managed to picked 5 players off teams that six years ago played in the Bloomington Tourney. What is remarkable about that tourney is that they picked only a dozen or so players with Minnesota connections in total this year.
These 5 players did not play in any other tourney together that year. The story would have been the same if the NHL brains had chosen 5 players off teams that had played in the Edina Tourney that year.
At YHH, this story will be repeated every year looking for a connection. By doing so, we are completing the stories of all the youth hockey players that look at the NHL draft as a milestone in their hockey careers.
Who knows what the 2014 NHL draft will bring, what the NHL brains decide? Perhaps they will chose three East Grand Forks, two Bemidji, and two Roseau players in the first seven rounds. Then the headline will read “And the winner is….. District 16”
