Ann Arbor Camp for 99 birthyear kids

Post by redtundra »

Heard a rumor there was a camp held in Ann Arbor (National Development?) for 1999 birthyear kids this past weekend. Any word on what that was about??

99 Ann Arbor camp

Post by imlisteningtothefnsong »

Not sure what you call it, but 40 kids went out and got a couple of practices and 4 games in front of some USNTDP staff. During the off ice times the boys were escorted through the Yost Arena, U of Mich home ice. Plus an inside look at the "Big House". The 110,000 seat football stadium. The trip was from Thursday through Sunday morning. Saturday there was another guided tour through the Ice Cube arena and the facilities that the U17-U18 boys use. The whole experience was a positive one for my son.
I wondered if there would be any discussion about this trip on this board. I figured to share what it was before the experts who were not there label this something it wasn't. There were no parents begging the staff for a spot for their little hot shot, just a bunch of kids playing hockey. Not every high end 99' kid was there, and not every kid there was high end. I don't make more of it than it was and maybe you won't either. My kid really enjoyed the weekend!!

My take from following this trip on Twitter was pretty positive.

Some good '99 players getting a chance to see Michigan and USDP. I'm pretty sure this is orchestrated by Bernie McBain.

A lot of these kids have been rivals for years and left best of friends. Not exactly a bad thing, if you ask me.

Judging by who went, it was a nice list of kids, but not a be-all, end-all list of our top '99s.

300, rode the bus to downtown Ann Arbor, the city bus to the hotel. Ate PB&JS in the room, my kid swam and I drank beers. Now, he was the only swimmer, but enjoyed it and did get the stink off him!! I would say it was a very relaxed and professoial atmosphere.

Bernie does this every year and has been doing it for at least the last 6 years.
