Rumor out there that Edina was approached about playing Elk River but Giles is not that interested in it. Would be great to have to ex NHLer's have their teams face off. The venue will be unique and allow for a big crowd. Have the Wild play Pittsburg and bring in Martin and Crosby for an appearance?

Giles is a smart dude. Why risk one of your players getting injured on a sheet of lousy ice? I'm not sure what's harder to believe, that they're playing this game as far south as Elk River, or that this annual farce still takes place. Getting back to our roots, with $500 skates and $300 sticks. Oh boy, I just love nostalgia. More like fauxstalgia.

Oh and Hill Murray with unlimited recruiting and the ability to create super teams are bringing us back to our hockey roots... Oh the irony

Hill high school's roots go back a LOT further than Hockey Day in Minnesota. Back in the 60's, weather permitting, they played many of their games on outdoor ice.

Venue will be fine, good ice in the pit, out of the direct sun and no wind.
Edina will be missing out. I 'm sure if it was up to their kids they would have wanted to play.

We are pleased to announce that tickets for the January 18th, 2014 Hockey Day Minnesota event hosted by Elk River at the historic Handke Stadium are NOW AVAILABLE for purchase at http://www.poweredbyhockey.com/. Tickets will also be available the Elk River Arena, and soon at the Elk River High School office, and the Elk River Wells Fargo branch.

General admission is $25 for Adult and $15 for Student/Senior. A limited number of VIP tickets ($60) are also available. Tickets are for full day venue & expo access and include these 3 great High School games:

Junior A: Coulee Region Chill vs. Minnesota Wilderness 7:00 PM


Space is limited and tickets are expected to sell out for this great Minnesota High School event.

Class A: Rochester Lourdes Eagles vs. CEC Lumberjacks 10:15 AM
Class AA: Elk River Elks vs. Stillwater Ponies 1:00 PM
Girls AA: Elk River Elks vs. Anoka Tornadoes 4:00 PM

Might want to revise your marketing materials...CEC is a AA team, and the HDM games usually aren't broken down that way (certainly weren't last year, when the 10:15 game was Eagan v Hibbing).
