Opening Night
Both teams losing some key players in the off season but nonetheless this should be a good game between teams in the Top 10

Conventional wisdom says Hill, given their edge in depth and especially on defense, but there are some questions about both teams after recent events. Should be a good warm-up for the season.

HM & Burnsville
Might be the worst play by play guy in the history of internet high school hockey webcasts.
Edit - take out the "might be".

Looks like our operation involves a dad who has set up a camera. And the numbers on those Burnsville jerseys are near-impossible to read.
2-1 Blaze after 1. French from Slattery on a PP goal for Hill, but Burnsville answered with a tip-in by DiGregorio and a very pretty goal by Cole Borchardt from Boeser.
It was a fairly even period, but Burnsville was showing a little more jump as the period went along.

Better than nothing, I say...just turn down the sound and watch the action. Heard the words, "But what do I know about hockey?"karl(east) wrote:stpaul wrote:Might be the worst play by play guy in the history of internet high school hockey webcasts.
Edit - take out the "might be".You never heard Howie Hanson try to do commentary, did you?

Yeah, pretty sure he said that while demanding an interference penalty on a player who was skating up the ice with the puck.dueling21 wrote:Better than nothing, I say...just turn down the sound and watch the action. Heard the words, "But what do I know about hockey?"

So far I think the Blaze have looked a bit stronger on even strength, but they've taken more penalties and given up a shorty, so no surprise at the tied score...

It was either watch this or drag both of my dead tired kids over to Detroit Lakes to see Achiever Academy. I decided to stay home...karl(east) wrote:Yeah, pretty sure he said that while demanding an interference penalty on a player who was skating up the ice with the puck.dueling21 wrote:Better than nothing, I say...just turn down the sound and watch the action. Yeah, sounds like an easy choice. The closest game for me was in Chisago Lakes...dueling21 wrote:It was either watch this or drag both of my dead tired kids over to Detroit Lakes to see Achiever Academy. Hill wins 5-3 (en). The Pioneers had a strong 3rd. They didn't seem to have quite the depth (yet, at least) of some other recent Hill teams, but their top two lines are solid, and Slattery was a force.
Burnsville has three pretty good-looking lines, but their special teams need work, and they got caught running around in their own zone a little too often. The foreign exchange student, Havluj, was getting a regular shift on the 2nd line.
All in all, a pretty good game, but it's only the start for these two teams.

Don't know if it was a dad running the camera, but I'm pretty sure that the commentary was provided by the same guy who does play-by-play for Blaze sporting events on B'ville's cable access station. It wasn't his first time behind a microphone.karl(east) wrote: Looks like our operation involves a dad who has set up a camera. Was at the game last night and would agree about the jerseys being hard to read. Maybe if they installed black lights it would help.almostashappy wrote:Don't know if it was a dad running the camera, but I'm pretty sure that the commentary was provided by the same guy who does play-by-play for Blaze sporting events on B'ville's cable access station. Don't know who did the broadcast, but it wasn't the cable TV guys. Sometimes highschoolcube taps into the local cable TV feed and sometimes its free lance. Be happy for the video. Calling a hockey game is as easy as singing in the shower..

What is the proper pronunciation of 'Havluj' anyway?
