Shots were 52-21 for East. Cambridge had four power plays, East had one.

No, Cambridge is definitely not strong this year, if anything they are weaker than past years, but East started a bit slow, and the 8th grade goalie, Sibell, played an amazing game.

Wow..... I see Cambridge in the bottom tier as in with north branch and moose lake... .. As they are usually the 7-8 seed in the section. How did this happen? Hot goalie, but still. How did CAMBRIDGE have enough offense for a 2 goal lead on a team like east...

That said, if I were to go back and look at East records by month over the years, I suspect they'd bear out the notion that East gets better as the year goes on. It hasn't been true every year, but Randolph does consciously try to get his teams to peak at the right time.

No reason to panic over one gave in November, though it also isn't any reason to plug them into the top 10-12 at this point in time. They may get there, but they'll have to earn it like any other team, and beating Cambridge by one doesn't do that.

As for the goalie question, Howg and Hedin split the game and each let in one, so no answers yet. The Wayzata game this weekend should shed more light on East-related questions.

In the meantime, the Hounds have to go earn their turkey.

On paper, the higher-rated Trojans would seem to be favored, but I didn't they didn't look that great against Edina...but that may have been more a function of how well the Hornets played in that one game (but on the other hand they did come back to completely dominate Centennial). I know, lots of "buts" here, lol.

In any case, the Hounds vs. the Trojans should be a very interesting match-up. If I had to guess, I'll go with Wayzata, 4-2.

I heard from a source at the game that Howg played the whole game, and that Hedin didn't get any playing time. I think the Hub messed up on that one. Howg is starting in net Saturday against Wayzata from my understanding.

For now, I'd say the Wayzata-Edina game was more of a reflection on Edina than Wayzata, though if they lose to East (or Hermantown), I might change my opinion. The Trojans didn't look great in their Turkey Trot games, but they still play sound D, and they have some talented forwards who should get going eventually. They didn't respond particularly well once Edina jumped out to the early lead, but since late last season, very few teams have done that against the Hornets.

I'd favor Wayzata in this game, but if East plays the way they did in many of their games against Lake Conference teams last year--and I think the talent is more or less there for them to do that--they could win a defensive struggle. Either way, I expect a low-scoring game.

The Elk River recruiting/open enrollment issue has been a non-factor for years. It was gone for good when Sarsland was let go. From what I can tell it is a homegrown team.

ER is Definetly Home Grown. Not one varsity team member hasnt been in Elk River since Pee Wees. There has not been a transfer on the Varsity team in ER for 5 years. Can't say that about Edina though can we. If you want to pick on a team that has kids moving to just play Hockey look there.

Only transfer for East this year was a goalie who moved all the way from Washington state because he heard East needed a goalie. He didn't make the team, moved back to Washington. true story.

No relatives at all. Him and his family moved all the way across the country for him to play on the team. Not to start talking about players and their families but that's just kind of a risky move..
