St. Thomas Tie With Holy Angels ?????
Curious as to what happened. Holy Angels got worked by Holy Family 10-1 and then come back the next game and tie one of the best teams in the state? Do we question St. Thomas this year and Holy Angels has a team this year or is this a fluke win for the Stars? Or was Holy Family's win over Holy Angels a fluke?

Thoughts... STA is almost an entirely new team from last year. I would wait to call them one of the best in the state personally. STA plays Holy Family tomorrow.IceMan22 wrote:Curious as to what happened. Holy Angels got worked by Holy Family 10-1 and then come back the next game and tie one of the best teams in the state? Holy Angels has some untapped potential and a great new coach, and STA lost a lot of clout on defense and in goal -- even while holding on two of the best junior forwards in the state.
I see from the scoresheet that STA played two goalies, not sure if because of injury or morale -- but Hallett was really solid in the game against Duluth Marshall. Goalie could produce some hiccups as STA rotates three inexperienced juniors to try to find the guy.
On Holy Angels, I'm inclined to think they had some kind of meltdown against Holy Family, who themselves got blown up in similar fashion by Edina at the Turkey Trot.

It was all about effort. In the AHA vs HF game the AHA players looked terrible, also they started a freshman goalie who has a lot of talent and will go on and probably play college, but it was his first high school start. In the AHA vs STA game AHA came out with a lot of intensity from the whole team. Shots were favoring STA, but AHA is an aggressive team and they took a lot of penalties. At one point in the 2nd they were short-handed for about 7 minutes straight. A few of those minutes it was a 5 on 3 for STA. This AHA team can play with the STA's and the BSM's of the state, they just need to give an effort like they did in the STA game.

blueline69 wrote:IMO this game was won, lost and in the end “TIED” because of the last of quality powerplays by either team and because of the Holy Angels goaltending. Each team had plenty enough chances on special teams from 5 min major for Holy Angels where they did not even have a shot on net and STA giving up a shorthanded goal. The game was not a clean game any strength with combined 54 PIM but what kept Holy Angels in the game was their goaltending which stood tall the whole game. so it is kinda puzzling that you might refer to their freshman goaltender as a “college prospect” while belittling the rest of the skaters, when he did not even play in the STA game which you claim is a much more important competitor.IceMan22 wrote: It was all about effort. Spot on. The AHA goalie kept the Stars in the game. I wasn't impressed by their offense at all. Defense was all right, but backed up either by an amazing goalie or a goalie who had an amazing game.SquirtC'00 wrote:IMO this game was won, lost and in the end “TIED” because of the last of quality powerplays by either team and because of the Holy Angels goaltending. Novak was skating around everyone but didn't have a lot of consistent help. Their first goalie allowed a couple soft goals and was pulled with 8 minutes left in the game.
I'd chalk most of it for both teams up to being one of their first couple games. Both teams have things to figure out between now and the end of the year.

HSHOCKEYWATCHER is probably the closest to saying what really happened. My take is that I feel after AHA got thumped by HF there may have been some works by the coaching staff and AHA came out pumped to play STA.HShockeywatcher wrote:Spot on. AHA does not have the scorers like they have had in the past, so they will get a more rounded scoring till someone steps up.
Goaltending was the big difference, I thought AHA's goaltending was probably one of the best outings in a long long time....03? Their defense also play real good.
The next game may say a lot on Saturday against TG at Richfield 2:30
