Oh boy here come the excuses. If it was so easy, they should have won.
Not giving an excuse... It was a great game and props to ER for pulling off the upset but two of three goals were little trickle ins that would've been stopped with one glove covering the line..... Just putting it into perspective! No hard feelings.
Here is the perspective:
1. Elk River came into the game ranked higher.
2. Thus, them winning was no upset
Man, I'm as big an East fan as you'll find, but you really need to take off your red-and-grey glasses. You don't represent well othewise.

I think it's definitely an upset considering how much East has dominated 7AA in the last five years. They may be ranked higher but rankings at this point are pretty meaningless, and don't show the whole picture. Huge win for ER. Probably gives them the top seed.
I don't understand why people are getting mad, Elk River played a great game but those were some pretty soft shots that went in. Game could've easily went the other way. Still think East is the better team. Just giving an honest opinion.
And as for the red and grey glasses comment, I'm an East fan but not that die hard.... Actually rooted for GR last year just because I wanted to see Bischoff go to state. Just giving my honest critique on the game.
An even game in many respects, but goaltending was the difference tonight. Not that Howg played poorly; he made some good saves, but the 1st and 3rd goals were on scrums that could've been frozen, and the second one was from very far out. Berglove, on the other hand, immediately covered anything around his net, and the two shots that beat him were wicked, perfectly placed shots. He'll be tough to beat.
The Elks were more effective on the rush, beating East D-men several times to create some good chances, but East played their signature puck possession game and controlled good stretches of the 2nd and 3rd periods. The Elks also blocked a ton of shots and paid special attention to bottling up Phil Beaulieu after he burned them for the first East goal.
Big win for Elky...as I suspected, they're the team to beat in 7AA. There's an awful lot to like on that team.
I'm not too concerned about East, either. It's early, they're young, and there's a lot of growing to be done. They didn't play poorly at all. It's a learning experience.
Anyone know what's up with Jack Kolar? It doesn't appear that he's played yet.

Jack Kolar is out for a couple months with a leg injury from what I heard.
Nice win for the Elks. Big factor in seeding, the 2vs3 game can possibly be avoided. Agree with Karl, very even but Berglove like Shepard from GR can be the difference in a matchup so even. Elks play GR in Edina classic on day 3 and that will be big for ER. Maple Grove on Thursday for ER, hopefully no Andover like letdown.
The ER VS DE game last night was a well played hard fought game. Different from the chippy cheap games from the recent past. Difference in goal tending may have been the key but I can say Howg made some fantastic saves. Jaremko and Zerban had some rushes that Howg had to come up big to stop. As far as DE and the statement they could have easily won??????? Ya it was a one goal game and Stuff happens but ER definitely had some great plays down in the DE end and the game could have been 5-2 ER if they hadn't missed some open nets or if Howg hadn't come up big. Not taking anything away from Berglove, He made one save that would go on anyone's high light reel, but he's a top level goalie and that's kinda what's expected of him

Forget about sparking controversy. Not sure that East easily could have won that game, but they definitely could have won. I think Karl has adeptly analyzed the contest. Personally, I was not overly impressed with either team at this point in the season. The game was sloppy, as befitting two teams who have barely played. East's inexperience on defense was apparent, especially in their decision-making, although Trapp had an outstanding game, highlighted by him blowing up a breakaway attempt by the Elks and then leading the rush and assisting on the goal that tied the game at 2. But the game was highly entertaining and it will be interesting to see how they improve as the season progresses. No reason to believe that at this point these clubs will not be the two facing each other on Feb. 27 for the 7AA crown.
