Top Goalies in the State

Post by ForTheBoys31 »

Alright, after watching Sheppards performance tonight for GR against Edina, who are the top goalies in the state thus far. In my books, Sheppard stands alone at the top of my books not just after that performance tonight but how techincally sound he is and his compete level! Sheppard has those tools in his pocket to scare some top level teams.

Bring on the top kids I'd like to get a better understanding of the top kids in the state at the goaltending position.

What makes the other two (Driscoll and Berglove) atop of the state? Just curious?

Shepard looked fantastic tonight vs Edina. Stood on his head, made big save after big save to keep rapids in the game. FUN to watch

From what I have seen this season: the three mentioned above, LaCombe, Gerdes, Martens and Lindgren.

Good athletes, control rebounds efficiently. Were three of the best in the Elite league. Would say Shepard is a cut above most. Hard to say what the next level will be for most MN goalies? 2 years of juniors? NAHL?
Driscoll is an underclassman.

Shepard is without a doubt the best in the state. Can win a game against anyone, as he almost proved tonight. Lock for the Brimseck award

I'd say he is as close to lock as they get, 2 years of this type of play.

The announcers were saying does GR have another goalie to give him a night off? Does anyone know? Being a goalie I know from past experiences if my coach came up to me and asked if I wanted to go tonight after I got peppered the other game my first response would be, "Heck yes!" But do they rest him for the ER game? And sorry can't wait to watch the Berglove vs Sheppard showdown Saturday night.

GR does not have a back-up goalie. Shepard plays every minute of every game. Did last year too as a junior.

Garcia (Forest Lake) looks solid; not as athletic as Shepard, but technically sound and BIG

It is so hard to say who the best goalie in the State is. Goalies are such a product of their team's play. Look in the NHL right now. Jones for the Kings is 7-0 with a .85 GAA and a .971 SV%. Is he the best goalie in the NHL? No.

Everyone likes to look at stats to judge a goalie. If a goalie made 60 saves he must be great. If a goalie gave up 2 goals on 15 shots he must suck. However, we have no idea how those 2 goals went in. Breakaway, 5 on 3, or a bad bounce. Also, the shots on goal stat is never very accurate at any high school game. I see too often a goalie make 3 or 4 saves and 1 go up on the board and also the opposite 1 save and 2 or 3 go on the board. Depends on whose dad is keeping track.

Shepard might be the best goalie in the State. He has a lot to improve on if he wants to play D1. He gives up way too many rebounds. You should never give up 64 shots in a 51 minute game. He needs to freeze the puck better and quicker. He needs to learn to control his end of the ice and dictate the flow of the game better. A lot of his rebounds come back to the net creating a need to make the big save. Last night he kept his team in the game and gave them a chance to win. That is the goalies job. Give your team a chance to win.

The only way to really judge a goalie is to watch them over and over.

If you want to see some of the best goaltending in the state, come to Braemar tonight or tomorrow. Shepard lead the pack of tenders last night, standing on his head to give his team a chance. Rohkol did his job for the Hornets. In the other game, it really came down to goaltending. Both goalies (Berglove and Gerdes) we're solid throughout the game and gave their teams a chance. Any time you see 60 shots and only 3 goals (4 with an EN), you know there was solid goaltending.

Top Goalie in the State?

Its gotta be the goalie at Achiever Academy that is suing MSHL so he can play varsity rather than JV!

Hurrah for the Bagley goalie.
Not the best, but he keeps putting on the pads despite knowing the other team is going to score 10, 12, maybe 20.

What the heck, let's hear it for the whole Bagley team!
Yay, Bagley!

That would be Sean Wendlandt, and I agree, solid goalie.

How did those 2 "best" goalies do Friday night in Edina? Not so well did they.

Section 3AA has a trio of good junior goaltenders in Driscoll of Eastview, Lindgren of Eagan, and Jancze of CDH. 3AA could have some great goalie battles these next couple years.
