Why would I have anything against Rapids? Maybe if they beat East more often or always went to state I would have something against them.... But I honestly like rapids and wanted them to go to state last year, so I wouldn't be angry about them winning. Was just stating my opinion. Sorry for the confusion!TheHockeyDJ wrote:I'm not getting too excited or making predictions, just stating how things stand RIGHT NOW in 7AA. Plus the fact that you went out of your way to make some angry remarks about Grand Rapids in your predictions, and well, you are eating a big fat plate of crow tonight. I'm not the only one enjoying that.Slammer wrote:Don't get too excited...... I wouldn't want you guys to get let down at the end of February.... Cause I know you haven't experienced that feeling in the last five years.TheHockeyDJ wrote:Awesome result after all the trash talk from below average hockey observers. Grand Rapids 3, Elk River 2. Rapids with a PP goal and Elk River deserved that penalty big time, one of the worst checking from behind penalties you will see at any level. So with this win Grand Rapids controls their own destiny to get the #1 seed. Lots of hockey left and a huge game now in January when Duluth East travels to GR. I know it's early, but after todays results:
1. Grand Rapids
2. Elk River
3. Duluth East
4. Forest Lake
5. Andover
6. Cloquet
I wouldn't say the favorite yet, if they do beat East they will be a slight favorite, but right now I would say there is no favorite and it seems like it's a three way race with some pretty even teams. I could see any of them down at the X this year. Also, don't count out Forest Lake.Edinahopkins wrote:Rapids is now the favorite in 7 ,

I looked for this live but couldn't find it on the cube.kniven wrote:MTStringer wrote:I just hope all these young men enjoy the experience of HS hockey and take the life lessons they learn on into adulthood.
Game video of the Cloquet EC vs. Forest Lake game on Saturday December 21 from Cloquet if anybody is interested.

I don't do games live on the cube anymore this year. Internet availability and general cube technology not consistent. I will see how it is next year.TheHockeyDJ wrote:I looked for this live but couldn't find it on the cube.kniven wrote:MTStringer wrote:I just hope all these young men enjoy the experience of HS hockey and take the life lessons they learn on into adulthood.

They tend to match the level of play which I guess is both bad and good. The centennial game was mostly the goaltenders fault after letting in like 3 out of 5 shots in the first or something like that..... And they ran into a hot goalie against Cambridge which can happen to any team, especially a team like East where their strength isn't in the scoringGPGT wrote:Man east is crazy this year. Beating #1, breck, top 10 prior lake, and really hanging with hill, but yet losing to centennial and nearly losing to Cambridge.
Just me or do they seem to be better against better teams ?
Whoever gets the 3rd seed is not going to have favorable matchups in the quarterfinals. No way would I want to play Andover or cloquet in the 1st round.TheHockeyDJ wrote:After todays results it looks like it's going to stay Elk River, Duluth East, and Grand Rapids fight for the top 3 seeds, Forest Lake seems to have a hold on 4 for now, and Andover/Cloquet fighting for seeds 5/6. Andover does play Forest Lake next Thursday which could be interesting.
Hate to confuse the issue further, but on ER's own website it shows the game was played on Saturday the 8th with a score of 4-1.karl(east) wrote:Okay, someone help me out here. On December 7, Elk River played Andover. The score reported at the time was 7-6 Elk River, and I vaguely remember us discussing this on here.
The box score on the Hub now says Elky won 8-3. Which one is the right score?

That would be really, really confusing, since the 8th was a Sunday.MNHockeyFan wrote:Hate to confuse the issue further, but on ER's own website it shows the game was played on Saturday the 8th with a score of 4-1.karl(east) wrote:Okay, someone help me out here. would you want to play cambridge in the 1st round? sure it sounds like any team could "easily" beat them, but what if the goalie comes up bigSlammer wrote:Whoever gets the 3rd seed is not going to have favorable matchups in the quarterfinals. 7-6 in favor of ER was correct the first time, and was the same on Andover's site a few minutes ago.karl(east) wrote:That would be really, really confusing, since the 8th was a Sunday.MNHockeyFan wrote:Hate to confuse the issue further, but on ER's own website it shows the game was played on Saturday the 8th with a score of 4-1.karl(east) wrote:Okay, someone help me out here. Edit: it looks like that box score is from last season.
Ill second 7 6 ER. I watched the game live.karl(east) wrote:Okay, someone help me out here. On December 7, Elk River played Andover. The score reported at the time was 7-6 Elk River, and I vaguely remember us discussing this on here.

East at Rapids as already noted by most of us is going to determine the top 3. Should Rapids win it would lock GR into 1, Elk River at 2, and East at 3. If East wins that game then I see all 3 teams on even ground. Then East's games vs. Cloquet and Forest Lake become huge in terms of tie-breaker arguments at the section meeting. East/GR is going to be a tough game to predict. East has goaltending issues and Sheperd is arguably the best goalie in the state. Rapids is still struggling with turnovers in their own zone and I see East as the kind of team that will make them pay for that. Another thing that is troublesome for Rapids is they don't seem as mentally engaged as their opponent in the opening 2 minutes. It has really been crazy how many times their opponent scores in the first two minutes. One thing in Rapids favor in this game of course will be they are at home with the band in the building and the crowd will be especially energized knowing what is on the line here.Slammer wrote:Whoever gets the 3rd seed is not going to have favorable matchups in the quarterfinals.
