From what I've heard Red Wing gave up a couple easy goals then just locked down for the rest of the game. As for Holy Angels, they played terrible...lethargic, unmotivated, though they still out-shot the Wingers about 2 to 1, but couldn't find a way to score (which is odd considering Red Wing gives up an average of six goals a game).

A good win for the Wingers though, first against AHA since 2001 I believe..?

Also, thanks Ready2Go for keeping the scores up. Due to finals this week I haven't been on top of it.

any of you guys know much about the faribault squad and the future with these kids? ive seen some guys in this thread not giving them much chance this year. do they have some potential in the next 2 or 3 years or are they still a ways away from competing with the top tier teams

They will be good in a couple years...then the parents will run the coach out...they will get a new coach....they will improve, then the parents will run the coach out...repeat this cycle every 4 to 5 years.

West and New Prague have distanced themselves from the rest they play Jan. 4th and that game likely will determine the #1 seed. West has that game with New Prague and 2 games with Mayo left as what could be classified as really their only tough games remaining. New Prague has West Farmington and Hermantown plus a bunch of conference and section games that could mean more as common opponents may come into play.

Beyond those two it's kind of a mess; LeSeuer gave West their closest game of any Minnesota team thus far and sits at 6-3-1. LaCrescent is quietly putting up a nice record at 8-2 and plays LeSeuer Feb 1st. Neither of those two schools plays a very tough schedule though and probably won't get any benefit of the doubt when it comes to seeding from the Missota and Big Nine coaches.

Faribault Albert Lea and Northfield are all hanging out around the .500 mark with nothing really separating themselves from each other or for that matter some teams with poor records that play a tougher schedule like Red Wing and Lourdes.

Lourdes has played the toughest schedule and although they have little to show for it with just 1 win they should be better off for playing that schedule. With games left against West. New Prague. Albert Lea and Red Wing the Eagles have a chance to greatly improve their position in the section or could end up fighting to get a home game in the playoffs as they could be anywhere from a #2 to a #9 seed.

There is no way Lourdes will be lower than a four seed. I will put money down on that one. They have been destroyed by top ten teams. But have played close against Verona which is comparable to section one teams. I think the games against new Prague and Mankato will be losses but will not be blow outs. From what i have seen so far Lourdes struggles to score but barked
Will steal a game here and there. I see Lourdes making the championship game for section one but losing there. Due to the goalie stealing a win that they may not deserve.

Lourdes

GMHF:

Seedings are based on results, not who you have played.

They may make 1A semifinals, but there is no way they beat West or New Prague to make the 1A finals.

That's my guarantee...

Unless Burkel steals a game for Lourdes they will not be in the final. They do not score enough to keep pace with West and New Prague seems to be a very complete team this year. Though, this worth noting, the first time around New Prague only beat Lourdes 4-3. There is some separation, but it is difficult to tell with Lourdes schedule being as it is.

I do feel Lourdes is a better team than their record shows, and in the past seeding has been suspect in this section... It's not unusual that a team with few wins against a strong schedule received a higher seed (Red Wing 2010-11: 8-17 record, 5th seed) and I feel the same will happen with Lourdes this year. Rather than being 5, I see them being a top four. Arguably though, if they do well on the tail end of their schedule they could slip into the 2nd seed with a win over New Prague on February 8th.

I am far from a pro Lourdes fan as a person can get. I am just saying don't leave them for dead quite yet. That's all.

Shakopee -New Prague could be interesting too. Shako is pretty scrappy and NP has some key injuries to deal with.

I would have to agree with this statement. They are a well coached team and they are young. Come sections I do not think they will be an easy team to send home.

Games for 1/4 -

Mankato East vs. Waseca
Albert Lea vs. Hibbing/Chisholm
Lourdes vs. St. Paul Academy
La Crescent vs. Minnehaha Academy
LSP vs. Austin
Red Wing vs. Hudson (WI)
Winona vs. Owatonna
New Prague vs. Mankato West

First time in a while we've had a more complete day of games in the section. The major game is obviously West - New Prague.

Best of luck to all teams.

Berkel almost steals another win. SPA was by far the better team with passing and shooting. Took ten to twelve real good chances for SPA to put away two goals. Next game for Lourdes should be interesting. I have seen SPA and MW and they are very similar teams. Can MW solve the riddle that is Berkel. That is the big question. Can section 1A solve Berkel? If a team does it is season over for Lourdes. If they can't .......!

Ouch, Lourdes. 2-1 loss? That score surprises me. Is SPA really by far the better team? No surprise that Burkel played well, tho.

Mankato East 6
Waseca 5

Off to the West v NP game

Today SPA was a significantly better team. SPA would have scored four or five goals if it wasn't for Berkel. Even Berkel on a good day.

Please post commentary on NP vs MW. Wish I was you!
