Actually, I should clarify anyway; their first line forwards aren't from Warroad.TTpuckster wrote:Where are they from?puckbreath wrote:Actually, Canada's and some town in Iowa, Bethune and Roth commit to UMDThe Exiled One wrote:http://www.northlandsnewscenter.com/spo ... 93751.html![]()

Bethune - Canada
Roth - Iowa
Sylvester - Little Falls, though at least he has been there the longest. The other two came during second year Bantams I believe.

Re: Warroads' Bethune and Roth commit to UMD
I am just curious when does someone not be considered a recruit...For example the Gardner Family, oldest girl graduated last year...When they moved to town the youngest girl was 8 years old -- is she still a recruit how about their youngest brother who was 4. By the time he is a senior he will have lived in Warroad for the entire time he has known to skate. Was he recruited? How long does a family have to live in town before they are not considered a recruit?puckbreath wrote:Actually, I should clarify anyway; their first line forwards aren't from Warroad.TTpuckster wrote:Where are they from?puckbreath wrote: Actually, Canada's and some town in Iowa, Bethune and Roth commit to UMD![]()

OR
The family from Albert Lee with there oldest kid is 10....are they "recruited" or maybe they just came for a job or maybe they just liked the town. I'm pretty sure no one can pick the next Crosby at the age of 10.
I am not saying that there aren't families that are encouraged to moved to Warroad.
BUT
It's impossible for a town the size of Warroad to support a business the size of Marvin Windows without some people moving to town......NOT everyone is recruited to play hockey some are "recruited" to work at Marvin Window. It is a big plus if they have children our school district needs the students.

You make some really good points. I wonder if anyone argues it the other way. Someone grows up in Warroad and after graduating from high school moves to the metro. They end up having kids who play for a cities team. Do those kids count as recruits from Warroad?ramstein wrote: I am just curious when does someone not be considered a recruit...For example the Gardner Family, oldest girl graduated last year...When they moved to town the youngest girl was 8 years old -- is she still a recruit how about their youngest brother who was 4. alot of people choose to move to warroad for the simple reason warroad offers free ice time people in metro and other places don't know what that means? they pay thousands of dollars to have there kids play hockey ,and others like Bethune what to play on a team where he will get recognition do you think they would have seen him in Fort Frances and I believe this thread is where they are going too,not where they come from you bunch of IDIOTS !! good for them best of luck to you boys

I'm certainly not an expert, so I really shouldn't be attempting to answer, but based on the information I found online going back to 2009 I only see Brock Nelson as a D1 player from Warroad, and yes, he went to UND.MNHockeyFan wrote:Question for the experts, of the D1 players that Warroad has produced over the last 10 years, roughly how many have gone to UND? It seems that Bethune and Roth going to Duluth is an exception to what's become the norm.

The only others that come immediately to mind are TJ Oshie (UND) and Aaron Marvin (SCSU).Traxler wrote:I'm certainly not an expert, so I really shouldn't be attempting to answer, but based on the information I found online going back to 2009 I only see Brock Nelson as a D1 player from Warroad, and yes, he went to UND.MNHockeyFan wrote:Question for the experts, of the D1 players that Warroad has produced over the last 10 years, roughly how many have gone to UND? Marvin Industries doesn't rely just on Warroads population for it's workforce.ramstein wrote:I am just curious when does someone not be considered a recruit...For example the Gardner Family, oldest girl graduated last year...When they moved to town the youngest girl was 8 years old -- is she still a recruit how about their youngest brother who was 4. The neighboring towns and counties, in addition to Warroad, supply that quite well, thank you.
Been that way for decades.
Well, except for the Marvin Scholarship recruits

Lee Marvin went to UND as well but that was slightly more than 10 years ago. Olimb played at UNO and Kyle Hardwick played at BSU. Kyle's older brother Jay who is the current head coach for the Warriors went to UMD. I have to imagine that played a huge role in their decision of where to commit. Especially since Jay played for Sandelin at Duluth.karl(east) wrote:The only others that come immediately to mind are TJ Oshie (UND) and Aaron Marvin (SCSU).Traxler wrote:I'm certainly not an expert, so I really shouldn't be attempting to answer, but based on the information I found online going back to 2009 I only see Brock Nelson as a D1 player from Warroad, and yes, he went to UND.MNHockeyFan wrote:Question for the experts, of the D1 players that Warroad has produced over the last 10 years, roughly how many have gone to UND? This is what someone from Warroad told me, not sure how much they know about the situation but seem to be pretty reliable.
Both Bethune, Roth, and their families moved to Warroad when they were in Bantams because of the abundance of ice they could have at no cost to them. In addition they were moving to a town known for its hockey program and would have a better chance to be seen in Warroad than somewhere else.
You can't blame them for wanting to become better with free ice time and playing in a program that has produced a number of college players through the years

I don't think anyone here was blaming them for anything. I know I wasn't.Hockeylogger wrote:This is what someone from Warroad told me, not sure how much they know about the situation but seem to be pretty reliable.

Absolutely not. Obviously, things worked out great for them, which only goes to show that they each made the right choice.Hockeylogger wrote:You can't blame them for wanting to become better with free ice time and playing in a program that has produced a number of college players through the years
That said, let's just pretend for a minute that Warroad was a private school. Would most here feel differently about their decision to attend Warroad and try to become better players?
