St Thomas (7-3-1) @ Benilde (9-3-2) 1-7-14 7pm
A battle between two quality AA private school teams. Both teams share a loss to Hill Murray and a win over Duluth Marshall, but Benilde has a win over a Burnsville team St Thomas lost a close one to. Should be a good game. A great opportunity to see Spencer Naas and Tommy Novak face off.
If you can't make it out, it will be streamed at: http://www.msbnsports.net/
Good luck to both teams.

You are correct. The Cadets dominated a highly ranked Lakeville North team and gave them their most recent loss...yet in LPH's most recent rankings sit just behind thembemused wrote:and St. Thomas has a win over Karl's newly dubbed "elite team" Lakeville North.. Cadets by 2

It may not make sense, but it's nice to be out of the headlines.

2-0 after 2.
Benilde has a few flashes when they set things up in the STA offensive zone, but there's a bit too much of trying to force the puck through people, and in turn, STA is shredding them in transition. STA's discipline in the neutral zone has something to do with it, but BSM is not in sync. They are doing a pretty good job of clogging up their own zone, though, so they're still in it as we head to the 3rd.

Impressive comeback by the Red Knights. It was more of the same for the first half of the third, including the first half of a major penalty, but after they got one, they really got going, and though Hallett made some nice saves, you figured it was only a matter of time.
This is the third time I've watched part or all of an STA game, the third time they have looked the slightly better skating team, and the third time they've lost. They can play with anyone, but--maybe because of their youth?--they aren't finishing the deal against top teams. (The exception being Lakeville North, but that was back before anyone thought North was good.) The Vannellis sure shake up their lines a lot over the course of a game.

That's two nice games in a row for BSM where defense was strong. The third periods of both the Wayzata game and this game were overwhelmingly controlled when BSMs first line kicked it up a few notches. They keep the defense holding and get that kind of intensity for the last two periods of each game and I would move them into a favorite to get out of the section.Cadets16 wrote:Benilde 4-3 in OT.

Correct as always Karl, the Vannellis need to consult with Yeo on how to switch up the lines for production. There has been a loss of forward talent on the STA team and although there are still studs on the ice, the defense is shallow at best. The favorable media attention will not be enough to stabilize a defense that gives up 3 in the third. Northern exposure front and center.karl(east) wrote:Impressive comeback by the Red Knights. From a 2D view I thought the Cadets looked pretty good most of the game until the major penalty in the 3rd. BSM got a shot through from the point to make it 2-1 only to be answered by Novak to get back the 2 goal lead. BSMs second goal came on a bad STA d-zone breakdown at full strength. BSM had the mojo scoring 3 to come back to tie it in the 3rd and carried the OT to get the W on an open net rebound tap in.
I thought the story or surprise from last night was decent play overall by BSM defensively and a goalie that played really well. I could say the score "easily" could have been 4-0 heading to the 3rd had Long not shut down a couple of earlier STAA chances but I won't say easily. All in a decent game by two teams that could make some noise in March but could also easily be done in February.
