I think Sauk Rapids will win the section as long as Ryan Peckskamp stays healthy.

Pine City-Moose Lake

Post by Dragons04 »

Well we pulled the impossible tonight losing to Moose Lake 5-3. They scored on some breakdowns early in the game but we dominated the second and third period outshooting them pretty badly, unfortunately all we could muster was 3 goals and a bunch of pipes hit which count for nothing, the team was not let down however knowing that we deserved the win but Danelski held them in there. Game saw lots and lots of penalties, Moose lake plays pretty diry.

Moose Lake vs. Pine City

Post by Beerpig »

I guess I'll put this in the right thread.

Moose Lake vs. Pine City
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 2 3 Final
Pine City 0 2 1 3
Moose Lake 2 2 1 5

First Period – 1. ML Nick Knezevich (Nathan Ribich, Mike Haglund) 2:51 2. ML Knezevich (Aaron Borchardt, Jason Syrett) 9:46 (pp)
Second Period 3. ML Derek Syrett 5:30 (pp) 4. PC Corey Brant 10:23 5. ML Haglund 12:42 6. PC Erin Schumacher 12:55
Third Period7. PC David Gross (2:57) (pp) 8. ML Ribich (Knezevich) 10:19

Saves - PC Tony Samuelson –19 ML Jake Danelski – 23

Moose Lake came out ready to play and Pine City wasn’t ready. Moose Lake was up 3-0 before the first line of Pine City scored. Lots of penalties but an exciting game. Very evenly played. Pine City put on a surge late in the second and early in the third but couldn’t get the game tying goal. After Knezevich scored to give Moose Lake a two goal lead with less than 5 minutes left, PC never seriously challenged.

By beating Pine City tonight coupled with a Denfeld loss to Ely, I think Moose Lake has a serious shot at getting the #7 seed. They have swept Pine City. Defeated Ely. Both Pine City and Denfeld have lost to Ely. Denfeld has lost to Proctor (6-2) vs. (7-4) for Moose Lake. Denfeld’s only section win is vs. Pine City.

Let me know what you think?

SCC v. Mora

Post by 2ahockeydude »

Goaltending: A battle of two very good goalies -- SCC won that one, but Mora has a very good goalie that stopped some "sure goals".... Fun battle, no doubt..

Defense: SCC won that one going away... All four players did an outstanding job.

Offense: Maybe a split, but SCC was way deeper.. Hard to tell since both defenses played pretty good hockey.

Special Teams: Mora had a good PP, but could only score one time, including being stopped on a 5-on-3 for about a minute and a half.. I have to say that SCC won this battle as the PK was strong and SCC went 50% on the PP..

Overall, this was a good game and both teams should feel good about it... Here comes the PLAYOFFS!!!

PC vs ML

Post by IndianHockey30 »

Wow! I don't know what posessed me to drive down to ML. I guess I wanted to see if ML was as bad as the hockeywriter was saying they were (I did see them in Proctor and they looked OK). ML looked good! It was an exciting back and forth game. ML's forwards were much better than PC's D. Pine's top line of Gross was good, but ML did a nice job of shutting them down. His line was out there for probably more than half of the game. The D for ML did a decent job. I talked to a parent and they claimed this was the first game since before Christmas that ML had all of their D playing. The line ML had up against Gross and Berglund actually got 4 goals. Danielski was solid in goal for ML and PC's goalie was OK. If ML plays the way they did last night, they might scare someone in playoffs. I guess ML won't be # 9 after all!

Injuries and such

Post by 2ahockeydude »

I heard through the grapevine that SR lost a couple of players for the season... any truth to that? Streit has a broken leg?? Is that what happened to them last night? WOW.... Looks like the playoffs are going to be interesting.....

Sartell and Apollo, predictions??

Going to be an interesting week and a half here....

Playoffs, HERE WE COME!!!! Best time of the season..

4 goals??

Post by Excel33 »

Moose lakes top line didn't score 4 goals against our top line. They scored 1 and maybe another one on the power play. You gotta give moose Lake credit though. And for us, we need to pick up our play, we are starting to play like we did in the beginning of the year, which was terrible.

As I said on another post, Sauk Rapids/Rice has 2 guys with broken legs and 1 guy with a separated shoulder. They only have 21 kids between Varsity & JV. Peckscamp is going to get really worn down the way they play him but who on that team won't. Very difficult at best for them to win the section but who knows, that's why they play the games. Fergus beat them 5-2 last night, shots were 32-22 for Fergus. No injuries resulted from the game as far as I could see, but some close calls, on both sides, with illegal activities, that went uncalled, for the most part. They also play three games this week, Tuesday(FF,) Thursday(Willmar?) and Saturday( Detroit Lakes.)

Ely/Babbit-Embarrass/Tower-Soudan 3 Duluth Denfeld 2Fergus Falls 5 Sauk Rapids-Rice 2
Little Falls 7 Sartell 3
Moose Lake Area 5 Pine City/Rush City 3
St. Cloud Cathedral 2 Mora/Hinckley-Finlayson 1

Not a real good night for section 2A last night, with huge wins for Moose Lake and SCC. As for the Moose Lake game i heard it was pretty much domination by the Dragons, and well i've watched the Gross line and i doubt that Moose Lake shut them down because well obviously they got two of the three goals and i've seen them skate with the best, but big win for Moose Lake, should move them up in the rankings. Huge win for SCC, guarentees them a spot in the top 4 i'd say for sure come playoff seeding time, from what i saw on the game it was good hard hockey , it would be hard to choose who played better in which parts of the game unless your from Cathedral then you pick every part of the game for yourself but in no way was the game one sided, Cathedrals goalie pretty tremendous in the net. Huge win overall.

SCC 2 Mora 1

Post by Ahockeyman »

The game was close just as i expected. Mora had some opportunities but couldn't get more than one goal. SCC's goalie played well and stopped a clutch breakaway but failed to stop a nice move from the corner by Nate Horbacz on a Power-play. However i still think Hjellie was better. He made some unbelievable saves on one-timers all night and was truley solid.

Both teams played hard and the game was very tight.
Mora looked like a team that finally put the pieces together. Watch out for them in the playoffs they could upset anyone under the right conditions.

ML vs. PC

It was only domination when you talk to the PC people. When shots are 26-24 and independent observers such as Indianhockey30 (whoever they may be) say it was a back and forth game and exciting, I would tend to believe them.

For the Gross line to only score twice with one of the goals on the power play, I would say they were shut down.

I was really suprised about the Sartell game. Not necessarily the loss, but they got drilled! Like it or not (for some of you) SCC may be looking at #3 come seeding time. Still some big games to come in the section before next week.

I think Section 2A is quickly becoming a wide open section. Sauk Rapids is hurt and Princeton is struggling. SCC, Mora, and Sartell are virtually interchangable. All of them have a decent chance to pull it all together and take the section. Proctor, Duluth Denfeld, Pine City and Moose Lake are all teams that can really ruin someones season with a surprise upset. Every year it seems Section 2A has a 5,6 or 7 seed that wins one if not two games to make it interesting.

The playoffs are gonna be fun!!

SCC Mora

Post by TheGodofPuck »

SCC could've had 4 goals on Hjelle, but the ref disallowed two, at least one of those should have been a goal. Hjelle played good, but I still think Rindelaub played better. It amazes me, people say "Mora is a very good hockey team, and Sauk Centre has a very good team", and they say "SCC is not a good hockey team". Yet SCC Beat Sauk and Mora. They say Rindelaub is not a good goalie yet he consistently plays very well. I just cant wait till SCC beats up on Princeton in less than a week.

SCC v. Princeton

With that attitude, you may find yourself walking out of P-Town's barn on crutches. The top 5 teams in 2A can whip-up on each other on any given night.. One goal games mean the game could have ended in either team's favor.... Mr. TheGodofPuck (you should be banned for your name alone), I hope you don't have to eat your words, but always be careful just in case you do. We used to call it "eating crow".... nothing you should look forward to.

Disallowed goals are like "pipes", they fall under the "wuddacuddashudda" definition of "So?". The ONLY thing that matters at the end of a game is what's up on the score-board. The rest is just a waste of time... Play hard and hit the showers...

This thread is starting to lose it's favor, too many people without brains... I may have to follow Mr. hockeywriter and find somewhere else to talk about hockey. Leave this to the kids who just don't seem to have a grasp, or just want to trash talk instead of preparing to play the game...

See 'ya!!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

Post by 2ahockeydude »

Mr. Branches, I'm sure you're correct. As with most of these teams and schools, there are great kids there, in fact most of them. AND every team and school has those one-or-two that make the rest look bad. I feel bad for those that feel the repercussions from those few that are stinking up their reputations.

OK, I feel a little better now. I still think that playoffs are going to be some GREAT hockey, and all I hope for is that the best teams move on. Apollos Dan Jernberg scored 4 goals and assisted on another. Sartell played cheap hockey and had some missing players.
