Lakeville North at Burnsville
Lakeville North gets the W over Burnsville tonight 5-4 in OT. One of the best high school hockey games I've attended.

This was two games in one. Burnsville came out strong and outshot Lakeville 15-3 to take a 2-0 lead after one period. They scored on a power play in the second to go up 3-0 and it began to look like a rout.
Then the Blaze turned the puck over and gave up a goal to North and then took a penalty and gave up another goal and it was 3-2 after 2. Then the refs took over and called penalty after penalty on the Blaze. The Panthers scored 2 power play goals in the third sandwiched around a pretty goal by Burnsville's Jack Achan and it went to overtime. After killing off another shorthanded situation the Blaze coughed up the puck deep and North scored in OT to win it.
Three tripping calls in the 3rd gave North a chance and they can score on the PP. I wouldn't call them all dives but Lakeville had the benefit of the last 6 power plays. Ruined a great game.
Great game by the Poehlings and Jack Sadek of the Panthers and Burnsville's Missling, Borchardt and Achan.

I was impressed with the game Achan played tonight. He's got great speed and showed he can score as well.KentRoadGuy wrote:This was two games in one. The hatrick did not go unrecognized. There was exactly one hat tossed on the ice after his third goal.

superstar,
a good suggestion/question,
early in the game when all the PP went Burnsvilles way and it took the 3-0 i thought LN had as many if not more quality chances as burnsville. it just didn't convert.
as the game went on the number of quality chances burnsville had dwindled and LN went up dramatically, too the point where burnsville had trouble getting the puck out of its end.. whether shorthanded or not.. and if you think back to the burnsville penalties you will realize that almost all were called in its own end..
i do have to say the refs did make many very questionable calls, on both teams…
but LN did exactly the same thing to hill a week earlier. it got a lot stronger as the game progressed and essentially limited hill to very few good scoring chances as the game progressed..
a week ago i questioned if LN was too young to win it this year.. the burnsville game gave me the answer.. LN is the team to beat.

I agree with you cigar. All of the penalties went Burnsville's way in the beginning, but then it was North who drew the penalties to finish the game. Overall, it seemed as if the penalties were called evenly. I give North alot of credit for capitalizing on their powerplay opportunities, especially the game tying goal w/ 52 seconds left in the game. However, the fact that #3 Achan was not on the ice for Burnsville when the game tying goal was scored is a complete mystery to me. Tired or not, I think he should have been out there, considering he was Burnsville's best player last night. Any thoughts on why the coach didn't have him on the ice?cigar wrote:superstar,

I don't think the penalties were necessarily called by the score of the game. LN began to apply pressure and generate opportunities in the 2nd period, which resulted in a few inopportune penalties on Burnsville's behalf. It seems to me that teams tend to take penalties when they are under pressure. Of course, there were missed calls on both teams. But as I previously stated, I believe the game was called evenly in the long run.nobama wrote:Refs that call penalties by the score of the game
I was at this game but sitting near the Lakeville North blue line when the overtime goal was scored. While I couldn't see the puck, there was a definite kicking motion and then the puck was in the net. Burnsville players were very upset and argued with the refs while Lakeville North dogpiled as if they just won the state tournament.
Did anyone have a better vantage point than I did that can speak to the goal? Was it kicked in? Did the player miss the puck when he kicked at it and it went in anyway?

I had a great vantage point standing in the corner on the end where LN scored the game winner. While I did see the kicking motion that you are referring to, I believe it ultimately went in off of the LN player's stick while he was crashing the net. I think the reason the Burnsville players were so upset was b/c they believed the net was off prior to the puck crossing the line. Obviously, we will never know for sure how/when the puck went in. However, it appeared to me that it was a Burnsville player that knocked the net off. This may have played an important role in the ref's decision to call it a goal.Traxler wrote:I was at this game but sitting near the Lakeville North blue line when the overtime goal was scored. Thanks a lot for that description. I was near the Burnsville students and they, especially one of them, were furious and yelling at the refs as they left the ice. They kept yelling, "It's all your fault!" They, of course, had the same, or even worse view than what I had of the final goal.danglingnsnipen15 wrote:I had a great vantage point standing in the corner on the end where LN scored the game winner.
