White Bear Lake (10-5-1) @ Hermantown (14-2) 1-24-14 7:30pm
How is it going Forum?! I am currently posting this from the very cool Hodgins-Berado Arena in Greenway as the Bears have an afternoon skate out here before heading down to Hermantown to play the Hawks.
I have to make it known how much I love this arena and how truly cool it is. For a born and raised metro area player like me, I can't tell you how awesome it is to get up north and see these amazing buildings.
Anyways, the White Bear Lake Bears are taking on Hermantown tonight. I have absolutely no idea what to think of this game, which is why I would love to read your opinions!
Finally, on top of the classic goal judge stands to the classic seating and everything else in this place, Hodgins-Berado Arena has Wi-Fi! I can't say enough good things about this place.
You can watch this game on http://TheHornWBL.com I'll be on the call after being on a bus for 5 hours today, but feel free to bash me all you want.

I don't know what to think of this game either. WBL can be so inconsistent from game to game. Which WBL team will show up? There probably aren't many common opponents, which is a dangerous game to play anyway. I see one: WB lost to Hopkins, who were blown out by Hermantown.
Since its in Hermantown and those boys will have a little extra motiviation playing a cities AA team, I'll go with Hawks over Bears 5-3

This is a good test of my theory on how good MN A is this year. I have held that this year there are a number of 1A teams that not only can play with the top AA teams but are more than competitive. If Hermantown were to win, with EGF playing Moorehead tomorrow and having victories over Blaine, Bemidji, and Roseau, as well as Warroad's two victories over Moorehead and one over Roseau, Breck playing basically a AA schedule, and the resurgance of Marshall and Totino Grace. This is one year I think they could effectively held a 16 team tournament and have balance 1-16.

Well I think the last few years you could certainly make the argument that the tippy top of A could, on occasion, compete with the good and sometimes even great teams in AA. I'm not sure I would agree that this year is a big leap for A teams over previous years. Especially with STA opting up. Its really been 3 A teams making the noise in recent years (Breck, STA, Hermantown). I think those teams at the time could compete, and many would counter argue that those 3 teams should be playing in AA anyway.ted2you wrote:This is a good test of my theory on how good MN A is this year. Indeed, nice of them to take a few cupcakes off of that previous light schedule. All in all still pretty easy schedule for a top single A team.bemused wrote:Congrats to the Bears! Good to see Hermantown playing some decent teams..ZachHalverson wrote:Bears looked good, remained relatively disciplined against an undisciplined team, and Chase Gorman played great! Great win for WBL! Tomorrow vs. Grand Rapids will be interesting.
My opinion is it all depends on 1 maybe 2 players from WBL. team pretty much goes as those to go. if their on. WB can be tough. should be fun though..
Wow! it takes a team to win. and maybe the coaches final realized they can't win games just playing one line. The bears won because the whole team was played not just oneline. The bears are a strong team this year when the coaches play their whole team.

Sorry to disagree with you Mom, but White Bear beat Hermantown because of Wahlin and the Goalie. Hermantowns 2nd and 3rd lines outplayed White Bears and as a team controlled most of the play. Your goalie was outstanding that night and deserved the First Star of the game. And Wahlin did what he does best. You take away the Empty netter and the goal Hermantown scored on their own net on the power play and the game was closer than the score. But at the end of the day the Bears found the way to win.funmom wrote:Wow! it takes a team to win. and maybe the coaches final realized they can't win games just playing one line. Well said WBL fan. Would of, could of, should of is used when your playing grocery store with your 6 year old.hockeymachine wrote:Full disclosure, I am a wbl fan, and hermantown did carry the play majority of the game. Gorman was fantastic, and wahlin was wahlin. The score did not do the game justice. But a win is a win....something I would love to see in late february against the pioneers.
