East should definitely be able to handle Lakeville South. 5-2. I'll take Marshall over Denfeld too, 4-2.

The words "Lakeville South" still make me cringe. There are only a few players left from that game a couple of years ago, but I'm sure it's still in everyone's memory. Simply because of that, it could be an interesting one.

Marshall by a few in the nightcap.

A cool event in Duluth. Wish our metro teams would think out of the box in scheduling like this.
I think East wins by a little Marshall by a lot. Same winners different spread Storm. I will go 3-2 and 5-1.

Here is the real reason for the double header. I believe Morgan's family has ties to all 3 Duluth schools.

Wow.
Can I just say I'm a jacka** for wishing our team could plan events like that or should I delete my comment? God forbid ANY kid school team or family is in that situation.
Good for Duluth hockey. Prayers for the girl.

Now I hope Denfeld wins. :)

Duluth East 6, Lakeville South 5, Final (OT).

Weird, weird game. South went up 3-1 early, but then East got going and went up 4-3 in the 2nd and looked to be in cruise control. Then LVS took a 5-minute major with a little over 7 to go. East popped in another one.

2-goal lead, great defensive team, most of the rest of the game is a PP for a team that's clicking around 40%...safe game, right?

Nope. South scores two shorties off of bad East turnovers in their own zone. Thankfully, East gathered themselves afterwards, played well in OT, and Bunten won it for the Hounds.

Positives for the Hounds: once they got going, they looked as sharp as they have all year offensively. Great movement, great chances, and balanced scoring. The defensive errors near the end aren't likely to be repeated, and the 3rd South goal was as fluky as it gets--a centering pass from behind the net that went off the back of Howg (I think) and in.

Negatives: A slowish start, complacency with the lead, not at all a good night for Howg in net. Yes, he got hung out to dry way more often than normal, but, several of the goals were not hard saves.

In the 2nd game, Denfeld is up 2-1 in the 2nd. Nice crowds for both games tonight, and great showings of support from the local fan bases for Morgan.

Big win for the Hunters, and another fun game. As I said when they played East, they may not have a load of front-end talent, but they're tireless, and they get great goaltending. They also survived a long procession to the penalty box in the 2nd...it was a very chippy game.

In a familiar story, Marshall had a large edge in shots but didn't score much. Might be time to shake up the lines a bit and try some new things, as the results just haven't been there recently.

If these two meet again in a 7A semifinal, it'd be good entertainment, no matter the result. There's a nice little rivalry brewing here.
