Grand Rapids vs Virginia

Post by SuperStar »

Did I read that correctly 3-1 Virginia?. Seems to be a bit of a upset...

That is correct. Mild upset to say the least. A lot closer game than the first time they played over in Grand Rapids, although that game was 3-1 with a minute left before Rapids popped in an empty netter and two more in the last 28 seconds making it look a little more lopsided with a 6-1 final. Virginia usually plays well at home.

Virginia is playing good hockey, hats off to them. I wonder if this loss was finally the one to wake Rapids up? Good grief.

My question is what does that do to the IRC standings now? Grand Rapids does not play Eveleth or Greenway, so I believe they have been using winning percentage, not points.

If that is still the case, Virginia will win the IRC with a win over Hibbing.
Virginia is 7-1-1, .833WP
Eveleth is 4-1-1, .750WP
Grand Rapids is 3-1, .750WP
Hibbing is 2-3, .400WP
I Falls is 2-6-1, .278WP
Greenway is 0-6-1, .071WP

If Virginia beats Hibbing again, they will finish at .850 and if Grand Rapids beats Hibbing and I Falls, the best they can get is .833. Eveleth can finish at .783 with a win over Hibbing, so they are technically still alive as well.

If it actually does go by points, Virginia already has it locked up with a 6 point lead over Eveleth and a 9 point lead over Grand Rapids.

Congrats to Virginia on the win last night and the probable IRC "title". I'm confident it means more to an A team than it does to a AA team that needs to schedule better competition to be ready for when the games really count - sections. Now, will GR be ready for sections....I'm not so sure.
