Any of teams 1-5 could win section. Injuries, discipline and good goal tending will determine winner.
Cathedral has lost to Sartell and Sauk Rapids , plus only a .500 record since Christmas so Alexandria has obvious edge.
Important games remaining
Alex vs Sauk Rapids
Alex vs Apollo
Cathedral vs Apollo
Keep in mind Section season seeding will probably be done before last regular season (this happen last season) game that includes a few key matchups.

I would say Sartell vs Apollo is still an important game remaining as well and that is the last game of the regular season. If Sartell takes care of business against the teams they play these next few weeks, that last game could determine the 3-4 seedspreferhockey wrote:Any of teams 1-5 could win section. Don't be surprised if the FF Otters make a playoff run. They have excellent goaltending in MacFarlane. If they can get 5 of the 6 injured players back they have a good shot at being a spoiler. They have been hampered by injuries the entire season.hockey9011 wrote:Yes it would!!! But with the depth this section has I would be suprised to see Sauk Rapids, Sartell, or Apollo in this game as well

I agree in the fact that if they get healthy they could maybe steal a game during playoffs but after the game I saw between them and Sartell on Friday I have a hard time believing they could get to stateRRubberbeeskit wrote:Don't be surprised if the FF Otters make a playoff run. 9011: I completely agree from what I saw at that game also. Were you at the Sartell vs FF game in Sartell? If so what are your thoughts on the Otters OT win down there? I was unable to attend that game.

Yes i was able to make that game. Showed up a little late and it was already 1-0 Sartell. I think that Sartell was more skilled than FF but that FF definitely came to play that game. Although Sartell did outshoot FF, they could not finish their chances. For certain portions of the game, it looked as if Sartell did not care to play at all. They would score a goal and then sit back and act as if the game was over. I also thought Sartell's goalie had an off game as well and FF took advantage of thatRRubberbeeskit wrote:hockey9011 wrote:I agree in the fact that if they get healthy they could maybe steal a game during playoffs but after the game I saw between them and Sartell on Friday I have a hard time believing they could get to stateRRubberbeeskit wrote: Don't be surprised if the FF Otters make a playoff run. 2-2-14 rankings.
1. Cathedral- with Alexandria falling to Sauk Rapids this week, I don't think there is any argument anymore for chs to not get the first seed. They play a much tougher schedule and have more quality wins.
2.Alexandria -a loss to Sauk Rapids this week just proves how close this section is. They have put together a good record but have had close games with many of the section opponents they beat (sartell, apollo, prairie centre).
3.Sauk Rapids-with section wins over Alexandria and St. Cloud Cathedrall, I see them having a legitimate agrument to be seeded above apollo unless apollo beats cathedral this week. SRR has been playing some good hockey as of late.
4. Apollo- could easily be switched around with SRR.. Has a solid record but lost to both the top 2 seeds in the section that SRR beat. Could make a run back to state.
5.Sartell- probably the hardest team in this section to rank due to their inconsistent play. they are one of the most talented teams yet the most undisciplined. Stupid penalties and selfish play have ruined this team. Still wouldn't be suprised to see them at state if they start playing as a team.
6-7 fergus falls and prairie centre.

Agree, nice job. 1-5 will have first round bye. Whoever is 5 will need to go on road for quarter final game, so 4-5 seed will be crucial. Sartell needs Cathedral to beat Apollo.hockey9011 wrote:2-2-14 rankings.

Thanks, appreciate it! Where do you think the seeds end up if cathedral does beat apollo? sartells second game with apollo will occur AFTER the section seedings so that game won't matterpreferhockey wrote:Agree, nice job. 1-5 will have first round bye. Section 6A has turned out to be a very competitive section, IMO any one of the top four teams could advance.
I agree with hockey9011 on the rankings for the section, even though three and four could be flipped. I have heard Apollo may have some injury issues that could impact their ability to advance.
At this point, I think it is Cathedral and Alexandria in the final, with Cathedral advancing.
Regardless, it will be very competitive and a fun section to watch!

Yes I agree with you for the most part..I couldn't decide between 3-4 for them... I have also heard about the injury to their standout sophomore and I think that this will be vital in their chances at advancing. This is part of the reason I put them at 4. The only part I disagree on is when you said "the top 4" could advance.. I think that it is actually the top 5.. I've seen sartell play multiple times this year including their 3-2 win over SCC at the granite city classic.. Although their chances are not great, I would still keep them in the picture for now.gac85 wrote:Section 6A has turned out to be a very competitive section, IMO any one of the top four teams could advance.

Yeah the apollo win screwed up seeding even more. Sartell beat St. Cloud tech last night pretty handily and tech had already beat Sauk rapids once and apollo twicepreferhockey wrote:Key word is "could" not "would". Apollo's win over Alex last night has now really messed up seeding.
Apollo vs Cathedral will still have an impact as both Sauk Rapids and Sartell beat Cathedral. If Apollo wins could climb to #1 or 2 and loss could be anything from 2-5.

Seeding Prediction
1. Cathedral. def Apollo 6-3 was up 5-0
2. Alexandria, just ok as of late
3. Sauk Rapids, 8-1 last 9 games have been good
4. Apollo, inconsistent lost 4 of last 9
5. Sartell
6. Fergus Falls
7. Prairie Center, no quality wins
8. Little Falls
4-5 match up should be great, Mac does not give Apollo home ice advantage
3-6 play tonight, see if tone is set in this game

Top 4 teams in this section all have 7 section wins. Mapping out who beat who would probably not clear it up at all, so it will come down to each individual coaches eye test. The coaches of the teams out of the top 4 will likely determine the seeds, meaning how did the top 4 do against the 5-11 teams. For example, a team like Prairie Center may seed Sauk Rapids higher than Apollo/Alex based on how their games went with those teams. Each coach uses different criteria when seeding, especially when it is so jumbled like this section is. With that said, here's how I see the final games and seedings turning out.
1 - St. Cloud Cathedral - Done with section play. Have 3 top section 2A teams and Duluth Marshall left. I see them going 3-1 in those four. This will leave them with a 19-7 record (7-2 in 6A).
2 - St. Cloud Apollo - I know people on here are down on this team with a 6-3 loss to Cathedral, but the schedule doesn't lie. After the Eagles win out (River Lakes, Little Falls and Sartell), they will be 16-9 (9-2 in 6A) with no real bad losses and a solid win over Duluth Marshall, 2 wins over Sauk Rapids and a split with Alex. I'm sure I will get some heat for this, but it's how I see it.
3 - Alexandria - I believe the Cards will win out (LF, Tech, Fergus and Willmar) and finish with a 17-5-3 record (9-3 in 6A).
4 - Sauk Rapids-Rice - 3 games left versus River Lakes, Fergus Falls and Brainerd. Most likely going 2-1 leaves the Storm at 17-8 (8-4 in 6A).
5 - Sartell - Of the 4 games left, only 1 is against a 6A team. Nothing they do in the final 4 games will change their seed in my mind. I think they will go 2-2 leaving them at 12-13 9 (4-7 in 6A).
6 - Fergus Falls - The Otters could play a big roll in the seedings if they can pick up a win or two in the 3 remaining games (Sauk Rapids, Apollo, Alex). I don't see it happening though and they will go 0-3 leaving them at 8-15-1 (4-8-1).
7 - Prairie Center - Best year for this squad in quite some time. they will win their last 2 (Wadena-Northern Lakes) leaving them with a 15-10 record (6-4 in 6A)
8 - Little Falls - Down year for the Flyers. They have Alex and Detroit Lakes left. I think they can beat DL so that will bring their record to 4-19-2 (2-9-1 in 6A)
9 - Northern Lakes - 2 games left and I think they will drop both. That brings them to 9-16 on the year (3-4 in 6A). Better record than LF but lost their only meeting with the Flyers and their schedule in nowhere near the quality of LF's.
10 - Wadena - I see them going 1-2 in their last 3 bringing them to 5-19-1 (1-6-1 in 6A)
11 - Breckenridge/Wahpeton - 3 games left, 3 losses leaves them 3-13-2 (0-4-1 in 6A)
Once this thing gets down to the Semi-finals, it could be the most competitive section in the state. I could see both semi-finals and the final going to overtime. It should be fun to watch!

Sticking with this prediction. in last week Sauk Rapids beat FF while Apollo lost to FF last night. Could go as far as Sartell taking 4 seed from Apollo, depends on coaches votes for seeding (today).preferhockey wrote:Seeding Prediction

I think your predictions will be dead on. Sauk Rapids has already racked up 17 wins this season and have won 9 of their last 10. Although Apollo did beat SRR twice, i think SRR deserves the 3 seed due to their recent performance.preferhockey wrote:Sticking with this prediction. in last week Sauk Rapids beat FF while Apollo lost to FF last night. Agree with "preferhockey" seeding, Apollo did not deserve 3 seed with 6-4 record in last 10.
Picking Sauk Rapids to win it all. Has been best team in section last month. Alexandria will be in the final but lack scoring to prevail.
No matter what expect semi-finals and finals to be the most competitive in section in many years.
