New TV Play by Play Voice for State Tourney
From Charley Walters in the St Paul paper this week
Former Gopher and NHL player Ben Clymer, who will replace Phil Housley as an analyst for KSTC-TV's (Ch. 45) boys state hockey tournament coverage, has joined Merrill Lynch Wealth Management as a financial adviser.
KSTC-TV also will have former Wild forward Mark Parrish as a prep analyst, and ESPN's Gary Thorne will be a play-by-play voice for the tournament.

Take away Phil Housley and add Gary Thorne? Awesome.
Minnesota icons are great (and it's good to see some like Clymer and Parrish), but when they bring in the likes of a Thorne or a Howard Cosell, it just adds something else. Short of Doc Emrick, I can't think of anyone else I'd rather have than Thorne. He and Nanne together should be great.

This just made my day if its true because nothing is better than Thorne saying "Sin Bin"ESPN's Gary Thorne will be a play-by-play voice for the tournament.

Thorne and Lou Nanne will be on the 2A tourney. Jim Erickson and Ben Clymer will call 1A action this March per a tweet from John Milea of the MSHSL.

This is BIG TIME! Other than Doc Emrick, you couldn't get a bigger U.S. name for hockey play-by-play.
I do hope he takes time in preparation, something that I don't think has been done when he's done the Frozen Four. One thing I think that will help is having Nanne right next to him. Nobody better to help with MN hockey facts, tips & anectdotes than Sweet Lou...

I was initially skeptical after recalling his last Frozen Four ("Gopher Head Coach Don Loo-see-ah") but after reading in John's Journal that he's already doing research on some teams, I'm very excited. I've been in the Al Shaver Press Box the last 6 high school hockey tournaments, but I'll have to DVR this one for sure.
Certainly brings some legitimacy back to the tournament broadcast and goes back to the days of Chris Cuthbert and other nationally-known broadcasters brought to Minnesota to call this spectacle of an event!
