Interesting. Looks like if Luverne doesn't get trapped by MB then they will either face Marshall which has a lot of emotional weight from last year, or Hutchinson who will be out for some payback for their lopsided loss to Luverne this year. Can Luverne be tiger tamers? If they can string three decent games together (and by their regular season, it looks like they CAN) they should get to the X. Haters seem to be waiting to pounce on them if they falter. I for one say they won't.

Luverne handily over Morris
Hutch over Marshall
New Ulm over LDC
Willmar handily over Windom
Anyone have any insight into the state of Marshall? Are they feeling frisky there? Campion proved he is capable of stealing games, but has been a shell of what he was last year. Everyone knows hutch can LAY EGGS on any given night.
How about New Ulm? Close game with LDC the first time, but in the most recent meeting they rolled over the dragons. Should be a good win for New Ulm, unless Wahl gets hot.
The machine in Willmar wont be stopped by Windom. I expect a gritty defensive effort from Windom. If they can pop a few early, Willmar struggles scoring goals. Willmar should win in a run time finish.
Good Luck boys!!

Word on the street is if Hutch/ Marshall is postponed. Luverne/ Morris will be forced to postpone regardless if weather conditions exist to cause a postponement.MrGoalieBoy wrote:Any ideas about postponements? Heard the weather could get pretty bad tomorrow.
Is that a standard protocol? If a game on one side of the bracket is postponed that entire side of the bracket does the same thing?
It probably has something to do with number of days between games for both teams is my guess. If Luverne/Morris played Thursday and Hutch/Marshall played Friday, Hutch/Marshall would be playing back to back nights and Luverne/Morris would have a day in between games. Not saying that's the reason or even that the reason is fair, sometimes tough luck if you have to end up playing back to back nights. But come playoff time, I think they want both teams on even days of rest so they get the best games possible for a successful section tournament.notTONIGHT wrote:Word on the street is if Hutch/ Marshall is postponed. Section 3A Quarter-Finals Games Playoff Preview
#1 Seed Luverne (24-0-1) vs. #8 Seed Morris-Benson (9-16-1)
# 1 Seed (24-0-1) Luverne Cardinals Preview:
Have taken care of their business so far this year they have compiled a perfect (15-0) record in Section 3A. They are led up front with the experience of Seniors Norman and Olson and the exciting young dynamic duo of Super Sophomore Smedsrud & 8th Grade Phenom Nelson. They have the Top D-man in 3A in Junior Sengvongxay and have gotten great tending from Senior Kendall Meyer.
# 8 Seed (9-16-1) Morris Benson Storm Preview:
The Storm have been on fire late in the season. They have won 7 of their last 8 games and look to be building confidence in what looks to be a fairly young squad. They are led by a trio of Juniors Taner Gimberlin ,Corey Goff and Bo Olson and Senior Corey Srorck and the Storm have found balance in their offense. Their weakness is they are very thin and don’t possess a ton of speed on the Blueline. They have had Freshman goalie Tony Burns step up as their number one goalie the second half of the year. They have been the most improved team as the season has moved on.
Prediction: I look for Morris Benson to give Luverne everything they have tomorrow night. If Luverne is looking ahead they could get caught in some trouble. However, Luverne’s Talent edge and being at home should help them survive the storm and move on the next round.

Section 3A Quarter-finals Games Playoff Preview
#2 Seed Willmar Cardinals (11-12-1) vs. #7 Seed Windom Eagles (10-14-0)
# 2 Seed (11-12-1) Willmar Cardinals Preview:
Has a below .500 record overall but they have produced a solid (5-1) Section 3A record. This team has 12 seniors in its lineup with a great coach to go along with it. They are led up front by Seniors Mottinger & VanDenEinde and also had some scoring punch emerge in Sneaky Stealth Sophomore Kobienia. On the Blue Line Seniors Tollefson, Pendill and Block log a ton of minutes and with the reemergence of Senior Goosman in the nets Willmar is a very dangerous club.
# 7 Seed (10-14-0) Windom Eagles Preview:
Been a disappointing season for the Eagles on ice this season. They have been led by their solid sophomore Devin Nielsen & Solid Senior Zach Bartosh up front and very good Junior defenseman Jack Mellstrom on defense. The problem with Windom lies in the nets where they have gotten inconsistent goaltending all season. Windom has not been able to play the upper teams because o this but has been very solid vs. the lower half.
Prediction: I look for Willmar to get their playoff push off to fast start. They have 12 Seniors in their line up and will expose Windom’s defense and goaltending. Willmar will show Section 3A the true meaning of “Roll Cards Roll”
Willmar 8 Windom 2

Section 3A Quarterfinals Games Playoff Preview
#3 Seed New Ulm (15-10-0) vs #6 Seed Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato (6-18-1)
# 3 Seed (15-10-0) New Ulm Eagles Preview:
Have more quietly went about their business so far this year. New Ulm is lucky to have Sleepy Eye this year .New Ulm Natives Peterson and Davis provide a good scoring punch but they have been led offensively by Sleepy Eye Juniors Helget & Kopacek. Also their top blue liner is tough rugged Sleepy Eye property in Junior Heidersheidt. In the Net Senior Kraus has been very solid all year.
# 6 Seed (5-18-1) LDC Dragons Preview:
Been a long season for the Dragons both on and off the ice this season. They have been led by their super sophomores Jared Pedersen & David Raisanen up front and very stout sophomore defenseman Ben Haugo on defense. The Dragons have not won a game since December but many say they could still make a run because of Solid Senior Tender Braeden Wahl. With Wahl the Dragons could be a tough out on any given night.
Prediction: I look for New Ulm to cruise in this one. They are on their home ice and have much more depth and talent then the thin Dragons. New should be able to use their big sheet to their advantage and coast to a win
New Ulm 6 LDC 0

Section 3A Quarterfinals Games Playoff Preview
#4 Seed Hutchinson (11-13-0) vs #5 Seed Marshall (12-12-0)
#4 Seed Hutchinson Tigers (11-13-0) Preview-
The Tigers have not had the season many expected so this year. They have firepower up front with the Top Junior forward in 3A in Cowger he is supported by Seniors Adams and Collings. They are led of the Blue line by solid Junior Maceman. They starting to get the support I expected from a solid group of A Bantams that went to State last year. They seemed to have finally found their answer in the net with the Senior Allen who has solidified them as a serious contender.
#5 Seed Marshall Tigers (12-12-0) Preview
They are still the ** Defending Section 3A Champions ** they are led by Their Killer B’s in Seniors Buysse & Bell and Junior Blaine Moran up front and Senior Brent Haukom on D. They still have a known product in Senior Campion he took this team on his back last year and will look to do the same this year. Goaltending is everything in the Playoffs and Campion has plenty of Big Game Experience.
Prediction: The Battle of the Tigers at the 4 vs 5 game. Should be interesting to see how many Shots Campion can stop will he be able to duplicate last magic…. I doubt it I look for Hutch to roll over Marshall and send the Message that they are ready to make a rubn to the X in Section 3A.

Section 3A Scout
Just a question for you Scout. But why do you have every game Luverne plays in as a trap game? Teams like Willmar, Hutch, New Ulm they don't look ahead to the semis and might get caught in a sleeper? I know you don't like Luverne or at least not seem to. But it seems like they are the only team in the section that "might get caught looking ahead"

So are all 4 quarterfinal games going to be postponed today?
Regardless here are my predictions.
Luverne 9, Morris-Benson 1
Luveren will easily continue their undefeated season and will dominate the storm and the Cardinals will roll into the Semifinals for the 3rd straight season.
Hutchinson 4, Marshall 2
Campion won't be able to get his tigers back to the x this year. Hutch will give him too much to handle and go over the 40 shot mark on their way to a 7th consecutive semifinal appearance.
Willmar 6, Windom 1Not much to talk about here, Willmar takes care of Windom easily and never gives them a chance thanks to senior leadership and shutdown d, as Willmar gets back to the Semifinals for the first time in 2 years as a member of the Section 6A.
New Ulm 5, Litchfield 2Litch has a lot to play for this playoff season but it wont be enough. New Ulm should handle Litchfield fairly easily with their depth in scoring and get back to section Semifinals for the 8th straight season.
