Because of Denfeld getting screwed, Hermantown is mad and Marshall is thrilled. It is what it is I guess though.

Why is that? Remember, Virginia did beat denfeld 4-0. They are not chopped liver.

Why is that? Denfeld is playing their best hockey right now and has played Hermantown TOUGH twice. You think hermantown would rather see Virgina than Denfeld, for sure. Marshall recently lost to Denfeld 3-2 and a week later Marshall beat Virgina 5-0. Yes virgina did beat denfeld very early In the season credit them for that but Denfeld is at it's best right now. Do you actually think Marshall is not happy to see virgina over denfeld? And do you actually think hermantown Is happy to see denfeld instead of Virgina?

I think anyone should really care who they have to play, you have to play them at some point and if it's the first game or the second game if you can't beat them now or later it doesn't matter.

I think it's great that Hermantown is now where they should be in this section. Section 5A was a cream puff. 7A has hockey tradition all over the place. Much respect for Hermantown making the move on purpose or not It makes for awesome hockey come playoff time. 7A is up for grabs this year just like 7AA. If I had to pick a horse, I'd go with the Hunters of Duluth Denfeld.

I understand all of that, I just do not think there is as big of a gap between Virginia and Denfeld as you think.

I think it comes down to those 2 to go to state and will be decided by goal tending since both teams seem to be able to get a lot of shots on goal. Not sure who's tender I like better but am leaning towards Denfeld as I have seen him be more consistant. I think that Virginia is interesting but lacks the depth and Marshall lacks the goaltending to withstand that first period to period and half of Hermantown. Grand Rapids was able to come back on them because their goalie got down to business so they could go out and play agressively as oppsoed to laying back to try to protect him but I am not so sure that Marshal's can do that.
Wow you are way out there and have no clue.

Seedings are in

1 Hermantowm
2 Duluth Marshall
3 Virginia
4 Denfeld.
I see the humor in the fact that you waited until after the seedings were in before you came out and said that you thought I was clueless in my picks. If you look I said right off the bat that it was a crazy thought but I so still think that Marshal is not in the running here. I have seen all 4 of them play and think that they are the weakest on the ice. I think that if it comes down to Virginia and Hermantown then Hermantown goes because of the depth or if Denfeld and Virginia go for it then Denfeld goes for the same reason. I really really like Denfeld's goal tending which opens up a lot of opportunities for them.

All in all I like the Hunter's chances in this mix but do not think that it is really going to matter who goes to state as both EGF and Breck are the top of the heap.

I didn't have to wait until seedings were out, I thought you were clueless before that and still are.

This looks like the perfect seeding for a talented Marshall Team. Denfeld WINS the #4 Seed.
Denfeld over a Hibbing Team that lost some key players in post season and still managed to put up two goals on a beatable Hermantown Team. Virginia has to play a rival that tied them twice.
Winner gets Marshall.
This could easily be a Denfeld vs. Marshall Final.

Not true... for two reasons:

They did tie Eveleth 3-3 in Eveleth in mid-December. Virginia outshot them 36-19 in that game. Eveleth was very fortunate to get that tie. But the game in Virginia in January was a mauling. Virginia won 4-0, outshooting them 64-21. They only tied once.

Hibbing is far more of a rival to them and is easily their biggest rivalry at this time. They haven't lost to Eveleth in over a decade and most of those games were lopsided running time affairs. There isn't much left of that rivalry because of that. What is left primarily resides with Eveleth fans, not Virginia. I am fairly certain they would rather play Eveleth than Hibbing.

Denfeld STRUGGLED with Eveleth last night, they were actually losing to them in the 2nd period. Now Eveleth is much better this year, but if we are talking about a #2 seed I have to knock you down a notch for last night's game. I would move Marshall to the #2 seed based on last night. Denfeld shows up in the rivalry games, but doesn't take care of business all that well in the non-rivalry ones.
Parity?

Just hand it over to Hermantown every year.

Hermantown is going to start to lose kids if they keep playing an A schedule. Too many people do not respect that level of hockey and some of the kids who want to advance will start to leave for juniors to keep up with the joneses. I know they added a couple of AA teams but I am not so sure that will hold them there. For sure based on last night Marshal has either got to do a better job of recruiting or try to find away to get sent to 5A section. That was not even a game worth watching.

Just a note for 7A fans, the semi-finals next year will be at 6:00 and 8:00 at Amsoil Arena on Sat, Feb. 21. They will follow the the 7AA semi-finals that are at Noon and 2:00. The arena will clear between the 7AA and 7A sessions, state tourney style.
