You want the two best teams to have the chance to play eachother in the biggest possible game.
Thats like saying you want the Miami heat and Indiana pacers to play in the first round and walk through the rest of playoffs rather than playing in the eastern conference finals, that's absurd.![]()
Sorry, I see no good reason for the continued existence of the NBA.

Re: Who you play matters
I am pretty sure Luverne would not mind going in as the 7 seed as you have them here. Takes pressure off them and teams may be over looking them like many have so far all over this forum. A team that is 27-0-1 seeded number 7 does not seem likely to me/Cootslayer wrote:1 Hermantown

3 SCC
4 NP
5 TG/Maht
6 Orono
7 Luverne
8 Chisago
Hard to not see SCC at 3.
They beat NP, TG, and tied Orono.
NP beat a team with 25 wins twice this year.

In the NHL, the best 8 teams make it. In high school hockey, the best 8 teams in the state do not make the state tourney.hshockeyfan53 wrote:Respectfully speaking, this point is invalid because the NHL doesn't seed their teams off of a voting system. They go strictly off of points. If we went off of only the record in high school hockey then Luverne would be the #1 seed. You can't really compare the two.fastncrash wrote: According to the latest scores, they ARE the best 8 in the state!
Give me an example of the last time the #1 and #2 regular season ranked teams in the NHL played for the Cup...?

There is no way that SCC would 7.... Play one of the toughest Class A schedules and have wins over the two right below them. Re: Who you play matters
You can't honestly look at the Luverne's schedule and say they deserve to be a top 5 seed. I am sorry and I do not think it downplays their season, but when looking at the field, they do not deserve to be a top 5. I hope they draw the 3 seed, who I think will be Cathedral.Bleed Maroon and Gold wrote:I am pretty sure Luverne would not mind going in as the 7 seed as you have them here. EGF
HERM
TG/MAHTOMEDI - Coin Flip
NP - Not much heard about them but undefeated in section, took down Mankato West
SCC - Better than the next three
ORONO - Feels weird to put the team that beat Breck here
LUVERNE - Undefeated but questionable strength of schedule, a tie with STMA?
CHISAGO - Section 5, the new Section 3?

Really anywhere from 4-6 would be fair for Luverne right.
Regular season dominated all their games.
Schwans cup tourney took that down.
Four hour bus ride, nailed it.
Section playoffs, every win was convincing.
So really why the hate? It's not the fault of Luverne. They schedule who will play them, (reminds me of Boise State)

I think i see this as how it will turn out..even though I think Luverne earned a 5 seed or 4. They went undefeated and yet beat Kennedy more than Orono.hockey9011 wrote:There is no way that SCC would 7.... Play one of the toughest Class A schedules and have wins over the two right below them. I don't see it as hate toward Luverne, but it is lack of respect. Yes, they are undefeated but looking at QRF data, Luverne is about the equivalent of Thief River Falls (#3 in Section 8A), New Ulm was about a Kittson Central (#4 in 8A) and most of the rest of Section 3A was equal to or below Crookston (#7 in 8A) Luverne SHOULD cruise in a section like that. Getting a tie, or shootout win, with STMA is not what I would consider "taking down" the Schwan Cup Open Division. It's all about the context of the undefeated schedule, big fish in a little pond.lamplighter98 wrote:Really anywhere from 4-6 would be fair for Luverne right.

EGF never played Hermantown, why should they be above them? It's an internet message board, it's my opinion not the MSHSL official seeding.MrGoalieBoy wrote:SCC beat New Prague.. Why would they be below them?12thgraders wrote:EGF

Would love to see a Herm/Luverne Qtr final game.MrGoalieBoy wrote:Yes, good post.defense wrote:don't think anyone is hating necessarily, but stating the reality. Opining that because a team has a very week schedule they won't get a seed is not hating.
If TG wins, there would only be 2 teams seeded below Herm that they have not played this year:
Luverne and Chisago.
I think Herm is going to randomly draw Luverne and EGF will get Chisago.
Don't think the EGF/Chisago game will be competative, but the Herm/Luverne game very well may be..
Just my 2 cents.
Love luverne, sta not so much...

As I posted in the 3A thread:
Luverne MAYBE squeaks into the 5 seed, and that's a big maybe.
1 and 2 seeds will be EGF and Hermantown, dont know what order.
With NP (6), Totino (8 ), Mahtomedi(9) and Cathedral (10) all being in the top 10 of LPH rankings, along with Orono (11) who I think deserves some credit for being a very good Breck team to go to state, I dont see them getting seeded.
I don't see how having an undefeated record against a very below average schedule can bump you up above any of those teams. Luverne played maybe 6 quality opponents this year in STMA, SLP, Kennedy, and MAYBE Willmar and Minnehaha. Other than that none of their opponents were any good. Tough to get seeded when you don't have many quality wins...
How I see the seedings and match ups:
EGF (1) vs. Chisago Lakes
Hermantown (2) vs. Luverne
Cathedral (3) vs. TG/Mahtomedi
New Prague (4) vs. Orono (5)

My thoughts on what the seedings should be.
1. EGF
2. Hermantown
3. St. Cloud Cathedral
4. Totino-Grace or Mahtomedi
5. New Prague
6. Orono
7. Luverne
8. Chisago Lakes
Mahtomedi (if they win) will probably end up at 5 and New Prague will move up to 4. Sorry, Luverne fans but the best wins on your record are against Bloomington Kennedy and Spring Lake Park, teams that were eliminated in the semis of their section. No wins against any top 20 (30?) teams in A. Orono has beaten Breck, Bloomington Kennedy, and Hopkins. They only lost to Hermantown 3-2 and tied St. Cloud Cathedral. Until Luverne gets a tougher schedule or wins a couple of games at state, they won't get the respect they think they deserve. Looking forward to the tournament as there are three teams (New Prague, Luverne and Chisago Lakes) who have never been to state and four teams that have not been to state that often or for a while (EGF, SCC, Orono and Totino or Mahtomedi).

OK, so it's very obvious that EVERYONE has an opinion and there's arguements up and down and alllllll around..
My point?... It's the State level, seedings, opinions, lobbying, shenanigans, heavy prayer, Ouija Boards and Crystal balls should be thrown out the Window. 8 qualified. 8 names in the Hat, random draw to fill the slots... and then: "Let's Dance!".

Should be, but aren't. The fact is that the teams are seeded and it's fun to debate who will get what seeds and why.fastncrash wrote:OK, so it's very obvious that EVERYONE has an opinion and there's arguements up and down and alllllll around..
