You're basically right, and this is basically what's wrong with high school hockey. I suppose Hopkins basketball is a comparable example.

Is it fact or you didn't agree with the decision and are expressing your opinion? Doesn't sound like you are being honest?
Fact...and yes being honest and the results from last night prove it.
HM lost a hockey game and that proves it? Come on!

It is nice to see no private schools in the AA section. This a step forward showing PARENTS they don't need to pay 16K to get noticed, you can do it for FREE.
See kids, Stay home and play with your buddies, its much more fullfiling and easier on your parents budget. Where's Willie?? :?
Why else would kids get kicked off Hill's Team??? Lets just say Tweeter is not a high schooler's friend. He obviously wasn't at Hill for the education because he would have known better - DO NOT POST stuff that can bite you in the A$$ later.

This back-and-forth bickering about what happened with Willie Brown ends here. He didn't play last night, and if you pay attention to the title of this thread....

I always find it great to see teams take on the personality that their coach had as a player. Doman was a scrappy, in your face, win at all costs kinda player. Cool to see.
Sats...I think you have to give Housley some credit for this. He helped get Doman in the program. He also laid down the gauntlet in the youth program to encourage kids to stay at Stillwater. I do not think Matt could have had the same effect. 5 yrs ago a tough, scrappy Stillwater team took Hill deep into 2OTs. (Nate Hewes post off the faceoff almost ended it) Many of the kids on this Current Stillwater team were there at the Coliseum, as peewees and bantams, watching in the stands and felt the excitement and heartache of that game. Back in '09 there were 8 Stillwater kids on that Hill team. How many were there, that played at the A banatm level for Stillwater, on Hill's roster this year?

I have been a Hill basher for many yrs...mostly cause my wife went there.... but always have felt private schools just open up opportunities for more kids to play high school hockey. Congrats to Hill you left many memories at the Old Barn and helped close it down with a very loud bang.

To Stillwater....AWESOME!!! Speechless. I watched the Hockey Day game vs Elk River and never thought I would see this. Coach Benson and Hammy enjoy you guys deserve this just as much as the kids. Can't wait to see the Black and Red wave finally at the X!!!

Yeah it makes sense that there has been talk on Housley coaching the Olympic team in 2018.

I'd have to think
Sagissor brought in Doman not Housley. 5 years ago, half the kids in Stillwater didn't even know who Housley was because he had zero involvement on the youth side.

Jordan and Jonah Johnson never played for Stillwater Youth Hockey. They played for the Fire.

And as for Housley getting kids to "stay home".....if we really need to revisit this after so many years, only 1 of those boys would've ever gone to Hill......Housley single handedly drove the rest away from Stillwater after wanting the Captain stripped from the team's natural leader to be given to his own son. He then terminated a long term, well respected Bantam A coach for not giving in to his demands.

The majority of these boys did not chose to leave for greener pastures, but made a decision to never play for Housley.

Congratulations to these Stillwater boys. They earned this experience. I hope the whole Stillwater community enjoys it. All the best.

Pioneerprideguy wrote:First of all, congrats to Stillwater & Coach Doman. You showed what good coaching & hard work can accomplish. I hope you & the "Pony Nation" enjoy the experience at State.

I said at the beginning of the year this team lack leadership & goaltending and last night both were shaky.

Coach Lechner appears to be taking a lot of the blame for this loss, and frankly, he deserves it. When you are the clear favorite because you have superior talent on the ice and decades of experience behind the bench, you are expected to take care of business. The approach usually taken in this situation is eliminate any hope your oppositition has right away. So Lex opts to start the game tentative and use a 1 man forechecking scheme? Really? You choose not to use you speed advantage to try to jump on Stillwater from the get go? You opt to shorten the game to a 2 period adventure? You allow Stillwater to leave the ice after 1 thinking, "hey we can play with these guys"? Why??

This is the 2nd time in 4 years HM has failed to get to get to State when they were favored to do so and in both situations, they had more talent & in my opinion, were out coached. Lets be honest about things, Lex basically coaches a metro all-star team. If you look at his line-up every year, he is basically coaching some of, if not the best kids from numerous youth associations from the metro/WI area. Most coaches would die to have that talent to work with and to step on the ice each night with that advantage.

I think we can officially take Lechner's name any "best coaches in the State" polls. I think if you were to poll former (and current) players, parents, and alumni and ask if you were in favor of a head coahing change, most would say yes......years ago! No 1 person should be an AD and head coach 2 sports (control issues?). We are glad he is giving up baseball and think it is time he goes off to spend more time golfing and spending time with his grandchildren. It is time to hand the reigns to the Shaf Brothers and let them reap the financial benefits of running the hockey program.

To the HM players, you guys are great. You worked hard and represented your school with pride. Unfortunately, you were put in a situation at the end of playing not to lose rather than playing to win. Good luck to the seniors.
You didn't really mean this stuff, did you?

Not a miracle worker like some say, but a top notch coach for sure... I also think that Stillwater has a very average low end, but also have the tools to give a very tough game to any team.

Pride?

I am a proud "Pioneer" having graduated and played multiple sports at HM. I have know Lex for a very long time & I have said it many times, the perception doesn't always match reality. Nice guy, decent coach, but is given way too much "love" for the success of the program. Every coach before him experienced success and whoever replaces him will do the same. He didn't make HM, HM put him on the pedestal. Let's just say, you will hear a great deal of applause when he chooses to walk away....but for different reason.

They can always shorten the bench. It worked for Blaine a few years (more than a few now I guess) ago.

Two lines. Third or Fourth line gets a face off or two in the offensive end each period.
