The first couple LN players got a handshake from an Edina player. Then it stopped - as though someone told them to stop, or they decided on their own - not sure.
Exact same thing happened during the 3rd place 2A award ceremony. Since there wasn't any of the diving/dirty play/questionable sportsmanship that you saw in the game that followed, I'm putting money on somebody from MSHSL quietly asking the EP players that were all lined up to shake hands to stop.

Maybe out of some misguided fear that it would slow down the medal presentation too much?
I'm sure that was it.

What's next? Guys pointing at their name on the back of the jersey with flashing neon? That should get the attention of all the scouts in the stands.
Never mind. Too late. Just was watching the Miami Heat game. On the back of Lebron Jame's jersey?............yup "KING JAMES". Not James, not Miami, not Heat, not Stillwater like SEC coach posted earlier, just KING JAMES. I give up. We now live in the espn era, the highlight era, the look at me era......sigh. Guess I better just learn to like it and get with the program. :?

Or, refuse to purchase things which keep the players well moneyed and thinking they're entitled to their millions. Like tickets.

I'd love to see a surgeon, just once, doing a Superman celly after a successful surgery. At least tugging on the front of his blood-splattered surgical gown.

Well to be fair, it's one of their nickname promotion games. They have highlighted several teams and games to do this for. Players from both teams are doing it and it's a marketing gimmick. To sell jerseys I'm sure. I doubt a player could abstain even if they wanted to. I don't find this any less tasteful than any other marketing scheme. The NBA is constantly doing jersey crap for sales. If it isn't this, it's the sleeve jerseys, or the Spanish language jerseys, or the armed forces jerseys, or the throwback jerseys, or the breast cancer pink jerseys (actually one I support). It's all about the Benjamins.

On top of that, I wouldn't exactly look to the NBA as our moral measuring stick or to guide us to teammate enlightenment. This league is BY FAR the showiest, look-at-me league that has probably ever existed.

We all know hockey breeds the toughest, most humble, bone-crushingly bad-a$$ players on the planet. Not every sport can be this perfect

Having coached in state tournament championship games in sports other than hockey, I can tell you definitively that the MSHSL tells teams not to shake the hands of individual players on the opposing tesm once they have received their medal. The reason we were given was, as speculated in an earlier post, that it would cause the ceremony to take too long. Keep this in mind the next time you hear an MSHSL official talk about the league's emphasis on sportsmanship

For those debating the origin of this game devolving into a joke, it lies squarely on LN. Coming into the third period, LN had 4+ minutes left on the 5 minute penalty Tyler Nanne took at the end of the second. LN did absolutely nothing on this power play and I saw a distinct change in attitude at that point. That's the exact point LN started hacking and hooking and taking a few extra strides to 'finish checks'. That was where the game changed. I don't blame Edina a bit for running up the score a little at that point. Frankly I'm surprised they didn't retaliate and I'm glad they didn't because the way LN was acting it would have turned into the ending of Slapshot
Well put. I am no Hornet fan, in fact most of the state was looking to cheer for LN in this game...but LN brought everything on themselves. The cheap shots...taking dives (that actually resulted in penalties, may be embarrassing to watch the film for the ref crew), cross checks to the neck...Was there no adult anywhere near the LN bench?

The celly's are out of hand, but this was the High School State Championship game..a game these kids (and more importantly their Parents) have been focused on for literally since Termites...no chance you get a "act like you been there before" attitude.

Icing on the cake may have been watching at least one LN player not able to shake hands during the post game handshake line...
I totally agreee, looks like the LN coach is from the Gordon Bombay school of coaching, at least the part where his kids are taking dives and faking injury. And they cry to the officials every single call. Sportsmanship must be not only low but the last priority of that guy.

Disclosure: I was pulling for North, just to see some shake-up in the landscape. North broke down (to put it mildly), and can learn from this experience.

Regarding the criticism of the Edina scoring celebrations:

The only people who should be allowed to criticize how a 16-year-old reacts to scoring a goal in the biggest game of his life (so far) is someone who has BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT HIMSELF.

So, here's my a template for future board posters to use when they pen their criticism of the Edina goal celebrations (fill in the blank):

"When I was 16 years old, and I scored a goal in front of 16,000 screaming fans and a million viewers at home, something that I had imagined doing 10,000 times on the outdoor rink down the street, I reacted to this most amazing occurrence by______________________________________________________
________________________________________________________, which was not at all what any of the Edina kids did last night".

Now, this is my own good-natured ribbing of those who have never experienced what those TEENAGERS in the green sweaters got to experience, yet still feel that they are allowed to criticize their actions.

I was pulling for North, yes, but I know how those Edina kids felt last night.

If you don't, then please, regarding the goal-celebrations, please step aside.
This is spot on. I've played at the tourney, but being a goalie there's not much celebrating to do until after the game. I've never had a problem with anyone celebrating after scoring in front of 18,000 people and thousands of more watching at home. They deserve to celebrate after working their asses off all year.
Amen - I too was cheering for North, my son was on the ice, but I still found no fault in the celebrations..just was wishing it was for the North boys.
