Well, I stand corrected...didn't seem this quick in years past.bubblehockeypro wrote:www.southsuburbanconference.org/.../b11 ... _34420.dochockeydad wrote:Most conferences wait until all winter sports teams in that conference are done before releasing all-conference lists.

Seems like a "typical" list....no team gets more than 4 all-conference pics, and every team gets at least one. Which makes for some tough intra-squad competition and painful decisions for the coaches....I wonder how many other D1 recruits or Mr. Hockey candidates won't make their respective All-conference teams?

Good question
That depends...
How many other DI recruits or Mr. Hockey candidates missed two conference games in December, that their team lost, for disciplinary reasons?

Re: Good question
That's a rather gratuitous shot, phrased in the form of a question. While it may have played a factor in some of the tough choices that his coach had to make regarding post-season honors, it wasn't a MSHSL regulated issue...from what I heard, administrative overreaction to a gym class kurfuffle, and much ado about (almost) nothing.Cootslayer wrote:That depends...

Water under the ice under the bridge; I'm sure that all of the extra shifts logged during the Tourney more than covered the lost ice time back in December.

An interesting story about a couple players that didn't get selected. Must have been an interesting coaches meeting.

I know when we played them in a tourney earlier in the year, their fans cheered when they came off the ice one time! That's kinda sad.nosoupforyou wrote:An interesting story about a couple players that didn't get selected. Must have been an interesting coaches meeting.

SSC takes a different approach to all-conference selections...the number of players selected from any given team is based on how that team finished in the conference standings. Champs get the most picks, and every team gets at least one selection, even if they're winless. And I'm pretty certain that it's the team's coach that gets to decide who gets the recognition from his team.puckbreath wrote:“I know other teams don’t appreciate the brothers because they yak a lot at opponents,......"nosoupforyou wrote:An interesting story about a couple players that didn't get selected. One result of this process is that the all-conference team is rarely balanced with proportional numbers of forwards/d-men/goalies. But I don't see any problem with that...plenty of chance for a committee to select 1st/2nd/3rd balanced teams for all-section and all-state teams.

So are you saying that said player was ineligible for post season All-conf awards because of the suspension from school or that his coach with only three player selections was handcuffed and had to make a tough choice? Was it the School Administration that made the call or the head coach? It is clear he must have been eligible for post season awards as an All-conf HM award was handed out.

Re: Good question
Athletes aren't disqualified from SSC all-conference awards for MSHSL-related minors, the way that they are for all-section and all-state nominations. Not that the incident in question was a violation of the MSHSL code of conduct. Don't even have to know the details of what happened to know that...Had it been a minor, it would have been at least 2 weeks gone, rather than 2 games.BogeyMan wrote: So are you saying that said player was ineligible for post season All-conf awards because of the suspension from school or that his coach with only three player selections was handcuffed and had to make a tough choice? And yes, I believe that Coach Taylor had to make some tough choices when it came to his allocation. On the bright side, every member of that team has far better hardware to tuck away in their sock drawers than an all-conference plaque.
