What a joke - MN HOCKEY CAN KISS MY ____). I recall a few years back a goaltender participated with only one goal against him in the whole tournament and had a save percentage above .950, yet the hub had this player below .900 for their save percentage and I believe they only recorded the first day of play..? This goalie was not selected for the NIT that year either. I was very confused that a goalie with one goal through three games was passed over, but I guess that is what the committee is there to sort out.
I don't put a lot of faith in the hub for gauging these players, especially when it comes to proper statistics, but I do agree that, while Goor is still a strong goaltender, I think LaCombe should be there instead.

Yea, well its the best information available to go off of. The kid got flat out screwed - just like with the Elite League - not even an invite to tryout and compete - totally joke.
Side note: As far as the goalies I am not saying Goor or Shepard didn't play well, which I am sure they did. But against even competition, even environment, even shots, even talent all round - it comes down to stopping the puck and the winner was the HF goalie and he was shafted - hard. I thought Guck had a hell of a weekend, as well as the Meyer kid from Luverne. Impressed by both.
But it does bring up another flaw - 2 players that made the NIT team, didn't even show up on Sunday to play - to me that's not right! If your gonna pick the players that should go on, at least pick from the guys that played all 3 games for godsakes...That's just plain common sense..
Once again the so-called "MN hockey elite morons" prevail and walk away with a TON of cash..
So very, very tired of it..I am done with these clowns.

What two ?
That is most certainly not right.
I thought Meyer played out of his mind on Sunday. The kid is a real quality athlete. Think he deserves a chance playing somewhere next year. Granted most of these teams have one goalie already. But this kid is worth the risk.SuperStar wrote:Yea, well its the best information available to go off of. I agree! It's the "Name". I'm sure EE is a great kid, but he has not gotten this far because of his skills. Connections to certain individuals have allowed him opportunities that other players of equal or better caliber were no allowed to have. I don't care about his size. His partner(T.B., same team, Sect. 8A) was half his size and is a much more well rounded player. Taylor Brierly was just as physical, much more of a play maker and more of a team player.

People, people really? Can't believe any faithful hockey followers of either of these programs are surprised by the politics or influence of certain people and 'their' players over others. Where ya been?? Some very talented team players are overlooked every year for many reasons, few having to do with what would produce the best team. If you are surprised, wake up? No roses to smell in these programs for most kids. $$$$$$$ and name recognition.

But as I've said, and I don't like it either, but a d-man with size will have any faults looked over most of the time.
As as you've correctly pointed out, throw in a name to boot, and well, ya know.

While I have to say I love Taylor like a son (literally) and appreciate the kind words from DekeDangler and PuckBreath. I sometimes think that Eddie is sometimes ripped on because of his name and not given enough credit.puckbreath wrote:I agree, especially about TB; he doesn't get the respect he deserves.DekeDangler wrote:I agree! Yes perhaps his size may allow some things to be overlooked but that size with stick also gives his the ability to cover almost a quarter of the width of the defensive zone. The kid has a blistering slapshot from the point. He has been 7th on the Green Wave in scoring for two years, first among D both of those years. His name didn't get that accomplished he did.
There where more than a few times during the championship game where because of his size (read reach) he was able to stop rushes that would have led to good scoring opportunities that don't show up on stat sheets.
Now I will admit I only saw three games of Great 8 so I won't pretend to say he was a good or bad choice, but hey that defensive pair did not give up a goal on their shift so that should count for something..

I just think, that like many with size, things he has problems with (skating being the prime one, puck handling another), get overlooked, while a smaller player with the same fault, wouldn't even get a glance in most cases.
Of course, many big players aren't the greatest skaters, so it tends to come with the territory it seems.

Bottom line is that the certain player does get opportunities he may not deserve but that's life. "SELLING"? Um, more like hands in pockets or noses up the coaches backside? That's exactly what coaches want more of? The best, natural players, don't need selling. That's obvious. The rest of the parents are not selling their kids because coaches won't allow it. We'll, at least most coaches.

First time I saw EE play in person was this weekend, and I thought he was very, very good. If he's like that all the time, he deserves what he is getting and no doubt should be on the NIT team.

I was not at the great 8, but sounds like he had a great weekend.
