Not a Luverne kid??? Garrettson, SD the article said

Will he even be able to play High School hockey? Looks more like a big loss for the cards down the road. Do they draw a lot of kids in from south dakota?

Why do you perpetually propose that Luverne draws all these kids from South Dakota? You act like its some hockey hotbed that gives Luverne a huge advantage because a handful of youth families live there. Maybe in trouts mind South Dakota hockey is special, but in reality, its light years behind MN. You do realize the close proximity to Luverne, and that farms exist across rock county? there are several farm kids that live further from Luverne than Garretson, and play in the Luverne association, and Worthington, and fairmont, and Windom ETC. 7 Miles is nothing to travel to play hockey.

When does this end trout? When can you give it a rest?

But the question remains, will he be eligible to play hockey at Luverne? will he have to move or open enroll?
Will he do that and give up football in his home town?
Lots of questions.

But sounds like a good young hockey player which is good for Luverne, hopefully. and good for hockey in SW MN and MN in general.

I was not impressed by the writing of the article. But that is another story.

I was just curious if they drew from across the border. And again will this very talented player be able to play High School hockey in Luverne. I am assuming no which is a huge loss for a small association like Luverne.

Luverne has some some great teams coming up from the Youth ranks in coming years but will they all be able to play or will they lose kids who are actually from South Dakota??

Common trout! UNO the cards have not benefitted from any of these South Dakota kids. If any of these people in South Dakota wanted to play for a up and coming program they should move to Luverne and join them. But why would they do that when they play in a eight team state tournament in South Dakota lol!!!

Also in regards to the article written by Fredrick 61... It has to be one of the most poorly written articles ever. Good thing this guy has nothing better to do with his time!

Good luck to the kid hopefully he is one of those that come to Luverne and experience what a true state hockey tournament is in minnesota!

In an unscientific study, I found that 8a had a thread with 1570 posts and almost 200000 views. Elliot70 puts in work

Schools co-op all the time to give kids from a school without a program a chance to play. State borders don't stop co-ops; Breckenridge currently has a program with Wahpaton ND, Worthington used to have a program with Sioux Valley IA.

At this time they are not a co-op.

All it takes for a co-op is for two schools to sign a piece of paper. It costs nothing and there is really no extra work involved. If the kid wants to play I'm sure they will co-op. Unless, of course, there is a motive for his current school to not want him to play hockey in Luverne.

Not being from the area, I would love to understand all the Luverne haters down there. I enjoyed the story and tourney appearance by this team. They represented well up there and I have seen the Bantams play and they are going to be in contention for awhile I think. 3A jealous? Cmon Herb help me out here?

I think its a combination of things. Jealousy is a main ingredient.

Here is a short list.

First of all, Trout has like 11 different accounts on here. All of which he uses to bash various outlets of Roll Cards Roll Nation.

Secondly, Its not a new phenomenon for jealousy to breed hatred. In fact, im pretty sure scientist's and brilliant minds say thats a fact jack. So, for a team that has had the recent success of Luverne, people will be naturally drawn to hate them.

Thirdly the 7 out 10 theory is undoubtedly a factor here. (7 out 10 people are complete idiots)

Fourthly, (love that word) brash commenters on this forum have turned some sour.

Fifthly, Beating teams by ten plus goals for SEVERAL years wears on people.

Lastly, There is nothing else to do in the southwest part of the state.

I really like the Luverne story. I think smaller associations can be inspired by what a lot of hard work, and a little luck (to get athletes concentrated into a couple grades and to get them out for hockey early, rather than any of the other winter options) can do to the success of a program. Success breeds success - I would think mite numbers have risen as kids, and more importantly their parents, want to be a part of something successful.

That being said, after the youngster jumped to varsity, I don't think the bantam team was anything to rave about. They struggled against some pretty mediocre teams (e.g. LDC, which had a move-up, as well). I also got a chance to see the peewees play, and I'll say the big kid was very impressive - hard to take your eyes off of him with his size, strength, speed, rocket shot, and the fact that when he was on the ice, he was almost always the one with the puck on his stick. When you did take your eyes off of him, the rest of the team wasn't very impressive. I only saw the squirt team play once; they lost by 4 or 5 and were outshot 3-1, but they're 10, so who knows.

I think it'll be interesting to see if they let the kid play bantams, or move him up right away, like they did with the young one this year. Also worth noting at section 3A bantam programs next year, will be the other two bigger, stronger, faster peewees that move up from last year's NUSE and Hutchinson teams.

Your not Curious about anything... your just Fishing for some HOPE (which is quite ironic for a Trout, BTW)... but don't worry your pretty little fins, I know there's a plan in place and for MORE than just this young player so you might want to start your online assault early this year, as your FAVS are going to need all the help they can get for some years to come.

BTW, what are all of YOUR Favorite Players/Teams doing this month? I can tell you what the Luverne players are doing... practicing/playing/and strengthening. Ice comes out July 1.

IMO, Luverne and Hutchinson are going to be very dangerous in this upcoming year. New Ulm will be competitive as well. But, with that being said, my offseason prediction will be Luverne returning to state with their edge on the other teams at the goaltender position.

Luverne has a goalie edge? There is no proven varsity starter. There is a talented tender coming up, but not proven.
IMO its the cardinals biggest question mark. Could be excellent or could be inconsistent. Thats what happens when you lose a 4 year starter in the pipes.

As much as I love seeing new teams get to experience the tournament, Hutch went in 09' (I realize that's now a while ago) and New Ulm was exhausting to watch get stomped on for years on Wednesday night at the tourney. I'd like to see Luverne make it back because of the fact that they'll put up the biggest fight against a first round opponent, plus they have a potential future D1 freshman who did well as an eighth grader in this past year's tournament. Plus listening to coach Brown at the tourney press conference, he seems like a good guy for the program. Fairly young and ambitious, seems like the kind of guy who can spark interest in hockey in that community and keep it growing.
