A kid that leaves after his 9th grade year or before is completely different then a kid that leaves for his senior year.

How many of those kids played 2-3+years of hs.

Nanne
Fidler
Snuggerud
Spinner
C perry
Johnson?
Dougherty?
Others?
Minnesotans are selected at a higher rate than Canadians in the NHL Draft. Think about that.

The percentage of Minnesotans (drafted players / population) trails Sweden - slightly - and is higher than Michigan, New York, Massachusetts, Canada, and everywhere else.

Wow. Never heard that stat before.

Dilks does many things well, but he has had a bit of a fixation on the declinist narrative about HS hockey recently. Not sure if it's conscious or not, but it leeches into a lot of things he writes.

First of all, everybody knows the HP festival, 54's etc, are the last evaluation, not the only one. Of course evaluators take into account other chances to see players; they should, too.

As for the elite league (a different thread, I know, but still), those selections start with a prospect list of over 300 the previous winter, who are then scouted personally, sometimes multiple times. The UMHSEL league staff also holds player evaluation meetings throughout the winter season, and spring, before selecting players for automatic invitations to the league. Over 100 additional players are invited to New Hope - like they are the 13th of this month - for a final evaluation. From all of that, the teams are named.

All coaches, at every level, take into account the players history as well as recent performance. Would you expect the Twins to cut Joe Mauer just because he struck out every time in his last day of spring training?

As for the Minnesota model "failing", whether kids stay in HS or to juniors, better tell the Canadians: this article was just posted after the NHL draft and takes a very different viewpoint...

Yes, a much more balanced article, in fact correctly slanted to Minn success.

No question Minn youth hockey graduates are holding their own and growing right now in producing NCAA, semi pro and pro talent. More and more however their last couple U18 years are spent elsewhere.

Short term questions relate to the issues of association hockey players crossing municipal lines at a rapidly increasing rate, and then whether municipal H.S. or Juniors is preferable after association.. Or whether either trend really matters . But "matters" includes the eventual huge issue of arena infrastructure replacement and maintenance costs which are generally still at the municipal level.

Longer term question relates to how to keep up with growing suburban LA, ,Dallas, and Chicago youth hockey , and of course Toronto. With Minn rich history, we need to figure out how to be a net importer of top youth and U 18 age talent, not a net exporter.

OU812, I got the 13th marked down from your answer on your other thread, but why in the world don't I see this scheduled on on the Elite League website yet ? What time do things start on the 13?

I agree the elite league website is sometimes not very up to date. Hopefully this year will be better in that area.

As for the evaluations on the 13th, I have not seen a schedule yet, but if I recall last year the first scrimmages started between 9-10AM

And she's right.

A refreshing change of parental mindset, not seen often enough.
