Yes, it is BS like the rest of MN Hockey operations.Bluelightspecial wrote:We can debate wether he should or should not be in the league! I don't care to. The reality is that over a hundred players tried out for roughly 20 spots, and he's good enough that he doesn't need to tryout? Hello? Tainted system!
Double standard organization but 'hey make sure you pay up' for the "evaluation"!!
I know of some very talented 8th graders too. That reasoning gets a bit cliche'
Respectful difference of opinion on Mike Anderson.
I know Ive got my own roster selection differences and questions, if anyone has thoughts:
The top stat goalie in the state last year tried out, but was not selected ?
Farmington, 5? tryouts and no selects. Youd think the top one would have been picked on talent, or at minimum in the best interest of some SE leveling and the progress of their 1A program. Or is there an early departure?

Where's he from ? Not familiar with the name.notTONIGHT wrote:I'm guessing it will go over really well on here when Jaxon Nelson, 9th Grader, (didn't tryout) will replace Jared Bethune on Team Great Plains.
I don't have any insider information, but I've heard this rumor, and it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Jaxon is widely regarded as the number 1 2000 born skater in the nation, and is being heavily recruited by several D1 schools. It seems like a logical fit to me.

It would seem more logical to me, for some section 8 kid to take the spot, and he take a spot in his area's elite league team.notTONIGHT wrote:As I said earlier, I dont know for sure, but thats the rumor I have heard.puckbreath wrote:Thanks.Traxler wrote: Luverne

Of course, that doesn't take into account, that I don't believe any ninth grader belongs on any elite league team for that matter.
In his case, he's obviously already got attention.
Let someone else get the chance.
He can play on it when he's a junior/senior, if he's still around.
And if he's not, then it's even more bs that he plays in the league now.

From what I've seen on this message board last year I would be surprised if Jaxon Nelson is playing MN high school hockey for much longer.puckbreath wrote:It would seem more logical to me, for some section 8 kid to take the spot, and he take a spot in his area's elite league team.notTONIGHT wrote:As I said earlier, I dont know for sure, but thats the rumor I have heard.puckbreath wrote: Thanks.

Jaxon Nelson is in the top tier for 2000 born players not only in MN but in North America. The Exiled One wrote:I haven't seen this level of hype for him yet. This could very well be true.notTONIGHT wrote:and is being heavily recruited by several D1 schools.
Here is a link from last winter: http://overtheboards.net/top-performers-mid-dec13/
Here is a link from June where is included in the Gopher Recruitment talks: http://overtheboards.net/b1g-recruiting ... minnesota/
Here is a link from July where he is listed as not just the Number One 2000 in MN but in all of Western USA: http://westernelitehockeyprospects.com/ ... eased.html
Kid is very good. I would say he is at the small level as the Anderson kid from HM. I have gotten a chance to see them both play this past winter. Best kid to ever come out of SW Minnesota that is for sure. Does that mean he is Elite League Bound not sure but he would do just fine in the league if he got the call. Not arguing the Senior should get first shot just saying if they did decide to bring him in he is the next big name on MN Hockey's Horizon.
As was mentioned above not sure how much longer he will be in MN High School Hockey. However, The Exiled One you might want to keep on eye on him as he is a very good hockey player.
Too bad he plays for Luverne....

Top tier is not the same as #1, but it's probably a fair statement.Section 3A HockeyScout wrote:Jaxon Nelson is in the top tier for 2000 born players not only in MN but in North America.
Still kind of a limited assessment. Not saying he can't live up to the hyperbole, but he's nowhere near the level hype given to Mathias Emilio Pettersen, Oliver Wahlstrom, Joseph Veleno, Jake Wise, or TJ Walsh. K'Andre Miller is no stranger to this board either.Section 3A HockeyScout wrote:Here is a link from last winter: http://overtheboards.net/top-performers-mid-dec13/

Of course! (Until he signs with the WHL, at which time he is of no use to me.)Section 3A HockeyScout wrote:As was mentioned above not sure how much longer he will be in MN High School Hockey. However, The Exiled One you might want to keep on eye on him as he is a very good hockey player.

Fair enough. Just was giving you the information you asked for. Now that he has been discussed.
The Exiled One what about another Southern Kid from Mankato West Jutting's Son? Was in the league last year as a sophomore now he is not on a roster this year. Should he be on your not returning? (Any news?)
Still very disappointed that Southern Minnesota only got 4 kids in the whol league again this year. Possibly 5 if the Nelson rumor comes true... Their are good players in Sections 3A, 1A and 1AA ... Sad that only 4 kids could be given a shot... (Not Included the Lakeville's I consider them Metro.)

It would allow more coach's kids, board member's kids, donor's kids and kids whose mommy and daddy drop enough money in the right place to get a chance to be on an advanced team. Even though the price you have to pay and the amount you have to suck up would drop a little bit across the board due to having more slots open I think that it could be made up for by the volume.edgeless2 wrote:Any idiot can pick the top 25. Re: Elite League Rosters
Why doesn't the league ask Oliver to step aside and keep EGF players in Great Plains and not take a potential spot of another North Player.almostashappy wrote:Elite leage rosters are posted. Have at it:
