For what its worth
Read my post-- I am not talking about WCHA teams versus the East teams or suggesting Harvard players selected for Olympics were the right choices-- or that the Gophers are a bad team.
My point is that MN high schools produce a number of very good D1 players but despite those numbers that the very best college players from the US in the last 4-5 years are not generally from MN-clearly some are. By way of example top 5 scorers on the US team at Olympics were not from MN.

Last year the top two scoring forwards and the top two scoring defensemen are all from Minnesota:hockeymaven wrote:Best player on the gophers the last few years has not been from MN

And all four - all of whom played high school hockey - return for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

The goaltending has always been weak Julie Chu shold not have been on the team They cut Hannah Brandt only one of the Lamerouix sisters should have been on the team. other than that the Olympic team was solid.]][/img]

Graybeard,
Yes I am right. The parent meeting had 6 parents show up, 2 of which their daughter already commited to play college this fall. The meeting was about the fact that they were kicked out of the JWHL and to see if a shortened season might be possible. Get other level? We had 9 players and a goalie last year. Never scene a line of parents waiting in line yo pay that amount of money for hockey, especially in Minnesota.

Re: Best gophers
No did not mean to imply that at all, one way or the other. Was just pointing out that last year their top two scorers for both the forward position and on defense are all from Minnesota and played Minnesota high school hockey. And I realize that scoring is only one component of what makes a great player - you have to be effective at both ends of the ice! And certainly in the case of all four of these players - Brandt, Bona, Ramsey and McMillen - they were as they were the only four players on the team that had a +/- rating of over 40.zambonidriver wrote:So MN Hockey fan you are saying Hannah Brandt and Rachel Ramsey are not the Two Best Gopher players?
Now as someone else pointed out Amanda Kessel, coming back from the Olympic Team, may again be the best player on the team this coming season - and she of course hails from Wisconsin. Nothing wrong with that at all - the Gophers should recruit the best players available each year no matter where they're from. But we're fortunate to have so many great players right here, and a good percentage of them end up being Gophers...also don't forget that Lee Stecklein (from Roseville) returns this year which will mean our top three defensemen will be Minnesotans!

Shattuck Prep had 2 MN girls last year and 1 was a graduating senior.Otter wrote:
Do you know how many Minnesotans they had on their team this year? As far as I know, it was zero. They could have moved some back and forth from the U16, but at least I know none of the graduating seniors were from MN.
The U16 Team had 3 MN girls last year.
I know of at least one incoming MN freshman.
