3AA 2014-2015

Post by Tenoverpar »

A new year and new faces in 3AA? Earlybird comments on teams in this section...

Pre-season seedings predictions?

1) St Thomas- despite losing the best Forward in the conference should have plenty of talent to be the big dog. Coaches will be rearing to get back to the dance.
2) Eagan- how many tournament appearances in the last 4 years..lost 2 big minute defenseman and the best goalie in the section, but until they get beat by someone in the section, they will be a perrenial lock for the section finals at a minimum.
3) Rosemount- Fiesty team with a Fiesty coach, have been young the last few years, is this the year they package it together and move up the ladder.
4) East Ridge-After a year tainted by untimely penalties and off ice issues, is this the group that makes its mark to grow the program. New coach will demand discipline. Expect them to compete in every game.
5) CDH- graduated a large Senior class. Will have one of the best forwards in the section, but underclass depth won't be there as it was in the last 2 surprise seasons. 1 line usually doesn't get you that far.
6) Woodbury- Another scrappy team that can play with anyone but gave up goals in bunches at times. Sure up the D and they have a go too top end forward that can be the best player on the ice when he wants to be.
7) Eastview - If they actually did lose their top goalie and F..they drop off big. BUt..who knows..maybe they have another topend goalie in the wings. This team will be the biggest question mark in the section until they get 10 or 12 games under their belt..then they can probably be more accurately judged.
8) Hastings -they play good at home, great old barn with student body support. anybody from Hastings have something to add?
9) Apple valley- No comment..not sure what they have...
10) cottage Grove- on the bottom the last few years. Hate their rink, it's just dead air. Great national anthem singers usually..kids from the school.

I'm not really sure about these rankings, STAA has no depth when it comes to goaltending, and losing Novak was a huge blow. Eagan lost their goalie and most of their team from last year. I've seen Rosemount play and besides Gillet they're not that strong, definitely not a 3 seed worthy team. East ridge is a quality team with some upside, goaltending could be a question mark, though. CDH does lack underclassmen depth big time, but they really only lost 1 crucial player in Olmschenk. They have around 13 seniors this year so this could be there last shot at being a top team. From there I'd say the rankings are about right, but I would not consider Woodbury as high.

Here is my Rankings for this section:

1) CDH---return a huge senior class, including Reis and Jancze
2) STA---Have some solid players back...Versich, Tufto, and Donahue
3) Rosemount---Gillett and young cast
4) Eagan---seem to retool when they need to
5) East Ridge---Wes should help them get up and running
6) Hastings
7) Eastview
8) Woodbury
9) Apple Valley
10) Park-Cottage Grove
