Elite League - playoffs?
Now that the regular season has wrapped up....does the Elite League continue with practices/playoffs?
Elite Playoffs
Yes, 8 team bracket playoffs.
Two MN all star teams, one made up of mainly metro players and one mainly outstate. Shattuck, Team Wisc, Mass HS all stars, Mich HS all-stars, usually one foreign jr team, and one eastern US prep school or a US based jr team.
Hockey is high calibur and high tempo. Always at New Hope with filled seats and lots of scouts.
Championship game is often Shattuck vs the MN metro team, but last year, Norwood Academy beat the metro team to take it.

Watched Southwest beat North last nite 4 to 3
My takeaways were:
o Masterson and Dornbach looked great, I still maintain both will be D1
o Mattson has grown another couple inches since I last saw him, but he was not a dominant force on the ice, got one assist
o Matt Anderson did not stand out on the blue line as much as I expected
o Bender and Bischoff both looked good. North put a lot of shots on goal
o Flakne had an unbelievable amount of saves, many very athletic
o Gabe had usual good game, and more interestingly he seemed to be the accepted leadership/captain for the North team, even though he obviously bailed on Northern Minnesota . I wonder how Gabe is being received at the Family, in less than a month he will be facing the Edina Buzz at the Turkey Trot

Mills, Sorenson, Senden and others played a great game to beat talent laden Team Southwest in double OT for the Elite Championship.
Team Northeast seemed to find a way to get under SW skin, resulting in lots of chippy penalties for McNeeley, Sadek, Poehlings
SOGS were pretty close to even.
Edquist and Lubby rotated, Burkel went the distance
Sorenson was a force to be reckoned with on blue line and in the low slot. This kid has been a little underrated compared to other top metro Dmen, and proved he can play with the best. With discipline, I think he was penalty free.

Thanks, Metro for the update. I was only able to get to a few of those games this year. I thought the play was at times fantastic. But I wonder how much talent has been lost to AAA this season. I think the out of metro teams suffer from this most with less depth to choose from to begin with and then with kids deciding to play for Northern Wings, Blades, etc., rather than the Elite League.
