Duluth East/Wayzata 11/29

Post by Usthockey13 »

Thoughts on this game? This will be Wayzata's 5th game and also playing Hermantown the night before. IF East can stay out of the box I see this being a close game game 4-2 Wayzata.

Hounds will be missing one of their Top D men and Dow's eligibility is still in question. Thats hurts. But, if Howg has a nice game, I could see an East win vs tired Wayzata team.

Wayzata coming off a tie with Edina, and OT loss to Elk.

And Hermantown game will be interesting.

But, seems to me they've got more depth and size than Duluth East, and Schilling has been decent in net, whereas I understand Howg has been a little erratic in preseason.

Also, East missing some key people until December.

Wayzata wins by about 2 goals

4-3 East
DE could've "easily" won state the last 5 years.

Eh, I'll be there to cover for Randolph. 8)

On paper I'd say Wayzata has a bit of an edge across the board, but I thought that last year too, and good defense and various Altmanns were enough for the Hounds to pull it out late. This early in the season, they'll probably have to rely on a similar formula. It'll be interesting to see some of the kids in action for the first time. It's a good trial by fire, unlike most years where they have a warm-up against someone like Cambridge in the first game. I suppose after last year's near-debacle, East wanted a first opponent who would push them...

It will be interesting to see how East does without Beaulieu and Trapp playing 48 minutes each night. Awfully big shoes to fill for the Hounds.

3-0 Wayzata final. The Trojans were certainly deeper, though East also looked like a rusty team playing its first game against a team that has already played 4 tough opponents. The Hounds were also way too undisciplined, which may have been where Randolph was most missed. Both goalies played very well.

Getting a more full lineup will definitely help the Hounds. The 2 East freshmen who played have some growing to do, but didn't look out of place. Alex Spencer has also come a ways since last season. Not a great start, obviously, but nothing that concerns me all that much.

Agree with all comments, Duluth East did not have a good day, and frankly this was against a Trojan team that had a pretty sloppy outing also. Remains to be seen how far Randolph can go with this talent. Elk River appears to be the odds on favorite for Section 7 at this point. Hard to keep the Hounds in top 10. I noticed Luke Dow was not even on the JV roster- what latest on that situation?

Are you talking about Duluth East? Never heard about any eligibility investigation going on in Hermantown.
